Is there a forum view on 'cyclists don't pass on the left' signs

Righteous anger here too. Essentially "I don't use my mirrors" signs.

It shouldn't really be necessary to tell people not to ride into the blind spot, especially on large vehicles. A lot of the time the driver will see nothing in the mirror.
There is a fair argument to say that the blind spot shouldn't exist, but currently they do. Stay alive, don't go down the inside of trucks, and buses. :)
In some sense the real issue, is that infrastructure forces us into that situation in the first place...

"We" all know to avoid going up the inside of a potentially left turning goods vehicle. However, I've seen enough insane moves by cyclists around HGVs to think there is probably a place for a polite reminder.
Sadly, many cycle fatalities involve left-turning HGVs - with female cyclists more likely to be killed in such circumstances than men.
Usual caveats - this shouldn't happen, poor quality infrastructure, why are HGVs on busy urban roads etc.

They really, really annoy me on vehicles like small vans, on the basis that it is crying wolf to put them everywhere rather than only on the vehicles that really do have dangerous blind spots.

Agree verbatim with Morningsider

Until the HWC is properly prescriptive about it, we have 'overtake on the right unless on a multi lane road where you can overtake stationary/slowmoving traffic to your right' (to paraphrase) and cycle lanes on the left of roads; so you may undertake if there is a bit of red paint. Not sure that the stickers can reflect that.
I've moved buildings and routes to work in the last 15 months, and I am now rarely in heavy traffic, so never feel the need to MGIF via the passenger door zone. Cycling in the city is pretty nice that way; the three islands after Stenhouse Cross are the only remaining bugbears.Posted 5 years ago # -
I agree with fimm. There may be a place for them on some large vehicles. However putting them on anything smaller than required just trains people to ignore them and removes any purpose.

I'm surprised there might be nearside blind spots on anything non-bendy apart from arthritic moles.

In the police motorcycling system (catchy name IPSGA) the 'I' is for information and forms a cartouche around every other element.
These stickers are just another item of intelligence. They warn of an organisation that may not wish to take responsibility for its drivers' actions and of drivers that may not be looking in nearside mirrors.
Information is good wherever it comes from, especially in hostile environments.

Some of the council's newer school minibuses have flashing LED versions of these, which only seem to come on when the left hand indicators are on.

Although it may inform cyclists that undertaking can be dangerous, it does seem the drivers of these vehicles are completely abrogating themselves of looking before turning left, cycle lane, inside lane or not. Also the police seem to think that we shouldn't overtake on the right either, I was once hit by a Jaguar driver from behind deliberately (all on video) overtaking a bus on the right hand side. It took me half an hour at Drylaw police station to convince them that I was entitled to overtake a bus on the outside, and not on the left. I have video of the accident and 15 mins audio of the conversation in Drylaw trying to get them to even write down the complaint! They did eventually and did nothing.

An HGV overtook me at 40 in a 30 zone on the zig-zags of a pedestrian crossing on Dudingston Road.
It had one of these stickers of course.
