New and upgraded roads should prioritise pedestrians, cyclists and public transport over motorised vehicles

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 14years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Ok, I see The National Institute for Clinical Excellence, normally the guidance issued for NHS medicine research is wading in through the looming type 2 diabetes angle.
NICE one
This is just deflection tactics to maintain the status quo.
We'll spend megabucks to build & widen roads and then and only then might we chuck in a few bike lanes...
How's about we stop building and widening roads altogether (as it solves nothing) and spend all of the same money on adding bike lanes & prioritising pedestrians on existing routes?
Eh? Eh?
We'll know that they're taking climate breakdown seriously when they start spending more than half the transport budget on active travel.
If all the reports I have seen in my 35 year career in transport on how car use should be replaced by cycling/walking were piled up strategically we would have loads of filtered permeability. Plus they could be soaked in cement and made into the kerbs protecting cycle lanes.

If Britain had a kilometre of protected cycleway for every page printed by government over the decades on how cycling should be prioritised, we might be getting somewhere
