It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Then someone started THE helmet thread and people just play nice.
CCE has developed to be (mostly) consensual.
Partly because some people have actually changed their minds - even about “about helmets or vehicular cycling”.
Some people have given up posting.
I wouldn't be too downheartened. The paradigm has shifted massively in terms of the quality of projects they design and support. They still need government and local government to take the lead, don't forget.

I've even changed the way I vote! Not entirely to do with CCE, but definitely a contributing factor...

I agree - CCE is a great place for friendly challenge from smart people. Certainly changed my mind on a couple of things.
