    Announcement here https://pedalonparliament.org/pop-goes-local-in-2019-save-the-date-for-a-weekend-of-action/

As many of you will probably have gathered, we're not doing the mass POP this year but instead we're going local with various pop-up events, hopefully quite creative and visual. There are already a few people in Edinburgh plotting plans, but if you'd like to get involved and haven't already, please let me know.

Rubbish up until the last minute, and then glorious, as is traditional.

Donations for goat sacrifices / whisky libations appreciated though

For the record @acsimpson donated the cost of a train ticket to Carlisle to PoPP last summer. That must be one goat?

@acaimpson, remember I bailed early to avoid paying you the train fare so really it is your money that is killing the goat/roast aubergine

OK, is anyone here Midlothian based and interested in helping out with a possible popup pop there?

I am Midlothian based. I'd love to help out but am just too busy these days. Hopefully I'd be able to attend though.

Some pop-up pop ideas - we're keeping the actual planned protests under wraps at the moment (but we're still open to more ideas!)

    POP t-shirts are here

    https://pedalonparliament.org/pre-order-now-stand-out-from-the-crowd-with-our-pop-up-panda-t-shirt/

Watch this space for plans for a 20mph protest as part of the POP weekend (that's a protest about the 20mph law not getting government support, not a protest held at 20mph)

Met with a young west end based worker who is looking to get involved in something the other day. She suggested something highlighting the awfulness of the East-west from the canal to the meadows route at Kings Theatre Junction.

I think what we settled on was a mass crossing of everyone who normally commutes that way, from all 4 directions syncronised. So groups meeting at bruntsfield links, canal, usher hall, and meadows from 8-8:30 then setting off to cross the junction at 8:35 all together with the phases of the lights. Just a lot of cyclists all approaching at once. Anyone who is interested give me a PM so I can connect you.

It'd be another early start to get to Aberdeen in time...

    A week to go!

A quick round up of the pop-up POPs that are happening in and around Edinburgh:

    Davidson's Mains school bus https://pedalonparliament.org/events/event/edinburgh-davidsons-mains/

Forrest Road human bike lane https://pedalonparliament.org/events/event/edinburgh-forrest-road/

Jelly Baby bike lanes (starting at Haymarket) https://pedalonparliament.org/events/event/edinburgh-jelly-baby-lanes/

Musselburgh 'chicane challenge' with the Cycling Without Age rickshaws (bring your non-standard bike) https://pedalonparliament.org/events/event/east-lothian-musselburgh/

    https://pedalonparliament.org/events/event/midlothian-cycling-not-just-for-superheroes/

For those wishing to go further afield, there's a map and calendar of all the events here

A wee birdie told me that a CCE regular would be in a starring role at the Midlothian event. The birdie was feart that sparrowhawks would be turning up as well.

Latest time to order a POP t-shirt if you want one for the weekend is 6am Thursday (if you're planning on attending the Forrest Road event in one, you probably want to order a bit earlier though).

Note that there won't be any opportunities to buy in person on the day - with 20 events around the country it's just too difficult to organise.

The t-shirts are how we raise money to run pop year after year, so please do consider it. This year's green ones are particularly cheery and fun

Musselburgh 'chicane challenge' with the Cycling Without Age rickshaws (bring your non-standard bike)

This has had to be cancelled, unfortunately.

A similar event may materialise in Edinburgh - please let me know if you're interested. Also let me know if you have a "favourite" chicane barrier.

I would be interested in the chicane challenge - I was planning to go to the Musselburgh event. (Rush hour Friday is simply not possible for me, unfortunately.)
Not sure if I can think of a particularly bad one myself...

    Thanks fimm.

We're wondering about combining it with @Kim's idea for a cargo bike event (from here: http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=19540 ).

In which case I think it'd make sense to do it relatively centrally? There are some barriers at various points along or near the Innocent path, and there's a really nasty (but easily bypassed) one between Middle Meadows Walk and Buccleuch Place.

So I think we could meet at The Meadows, take some photos with the barrier there and then follow NCN 1, taking in the barriers at East Parkside, Forkenford, Hay Avenue and Duddingston Park South.

    Does that sound reasonable?

It does. Not my side of town, though, so I can't comment on specifics.
I do need to talk to mr fimm too!!
