    Time for a die-in / protest?

Die-in timed with the PoP mini-pop-up activities?

Will there be a fatal accident enquiry?

Did the Zhi Min Soh FIA ever materialise?

@Arellcat - I was told in July that the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit had conducted an inquiry, which concluded that "the standard of driving did not fall below that of a careful and competent driver", and so no criminal proceedings would happen.

At the same time I was also told that "The investigation as to whether there have been any Health and Safety breaches and also whether there is a basis for the Lord Advocate to instruct a Fatal Accident Inquiry at his discretion is ongoing and may take some considerable time."

I might follow up next week.

Yes, "we knew" that was likely to be the case.

But what about the road designers & tram designers? Why aren't they being prosecuted? They were warned many times by many organisations & individuals that the road design was fatally flawed.

I am beginning to wonder what these standards are these days!

I would think the following should be some of this driving standard but am having my doubts -

    stop at red lights
    obey give way
    be careful when overtaking
do not drive on pavements or cycle paths unless an emergency
keep a safe distance from the vehicle (includes cycles) in front

I’ve just discovered that the man who died was a former student of mine at the University, and a current PhD student being supervised by 2 colleagues. His partner is expecting a baby, I believe.

I am horrified and shocked more than I can say, and just unutterably angry at the waste. I am angry at every single individual who blocks and delays and objects to any semblance of progress in improving safety on our roads. I think I need to stay off Twitter and probably off the roads, as I don’t think I can trust my reactions at the moment.

Just in case anyone here would like to donate to support Stuart's family. I didn't know him, but a friend of mine did and shared this.

    Thanks, @jdanielp.

I'd been considering leaving some flowers there tomorrow morning, but have donated the money to the crowdfunder instead.

+1, saw the link on Twitter. Shared (also on Facebook) and donated.

EDIT: Disgustingly, I've just discovered that the Edinburgh Evening News article has a video as the header, which has quite clearly been filmed by someone with a mobile phone while driving. I've e-mailed the editor to highlight how repulsive that is, and to request that it be removed, and pointed out that I'll be contacting IPSO and Police Scotland if it's not.

I thought the EEN was pretty bottom of the barrel but this is a new low. No editorial 'filter' evidently - anything goes for clickbait.

I would report it to the Police anyway. Best they know that these things are happening

  23. That'll be Euan McGrory - I guess he put it up as part of his enthusiasm for promoting 'healthy debate', which he's always keen to use as an excuse when you call them the EEN out for their pro-car/pro-parking/anti-bike/anti-20mph/anti-bus stance.

Obviously never seen the quality of any 'debate' on their FB page comments, then....

According to local Facebook it's a cyclist and the outcome doesn't look good (hoping it's someone making incorrect assumptions though).

    Very sad to hear

I saw flashing lights up at the roundabout when I crossed the Harry Lauder Road. Sad news.
