I was pootling through the cones this morn just before 9 and asked the person with the tabard why there was a car driving in the exclusion zone. The tabarded one said I have absolutely no idea.

Given what sounded like a blanket policy I am afraid I was quite direct with the motorist who said she could drive through. She was going slowly. Possibly to pick up a sick child? Or given I had earlier swerved to avoid hitting a dad and a child leaving the hospital at the cones who were carrying a big bag of stuff something worse.

So have I stupidly castigated a motorist who was allowed to drive through despite the road being closed? Like if you have a poorly child or similar?

Or should it be zero exceptions?

Local residents get a permit to use the zone. Perhaps she was one of those?

There was a car parked in the zone that followed me out. I think one issue was the cones at the east end were gone. So maybe 9a.m. Is end and they ended sharply? I usually go through earlier when there are always cones At both ends and no cars going through.

Yeah there are permits, black and white I think, which allow residents to drive in. There are parking signs which say when you're not meant to drive away, and that you won't be ticketed for overstaying if you've paid for parking to a time within those - if those say 9am it would maybe make sense that someone would want to leave sharply to avoid a fine while observing the closure.

No. Naughty naughty. When the Sick Kids closes they can close the street to through traffic permanently, community council traffic displacement fears permitting.

Sick kids should be moving this summer though of course resistance has kept it there for `10 years. THey will need to close the road as the development of the sight will bring big vehicles etc

Sick Kids much more convenient for most of Edinburgh where it is currently. Especially for those who don't use motor cars.

Had a flyer through the door this morning about the sick kids moving. Not read it.

@crowriver, indeed, as was the Royal Infirmary and Simpsons Maternity Hospital

Mrs Garto went there for her first two labours via taxi
