I've been thinking for a while, that it would be good to have a Welcome/Introductions thread to welcome new users and for existing folks to remind us who they are, and what bikes they ride etc.

“welcome new users and for existing folks to remind us who they are”

    That’s two different things.

There has been threads for ‘who we are’, ‘which neighbourhood’, ‘what bike’ etc.

“About this site” was intended as an intro, but didn’t really work.

Maybe needs to be a new page with link sent to new registrants.

@chdot just add a link to stickied topic to the approval email?

Good afternoon @gnr1751 - and ouch.

@chdot - yes, originally I was just going to add a Welcome to new users as I register them. But the introductions element gives folks an easy first post if they want to. Having existing users post if they want just kicks things off. There is some duplication of information spread across old threads but this is hopefully different and useful enough?

Lurked for a while when I started to use the cycle hire scheme and figured I might as well join since I have my own bike now! Student, YIMBY and public transport nerd. Can be found on my grey and yellow hybrid racing trams along Princes Street in the evening.

I’ve been working on https://cycleparking.net recently since I kept getting annoying trying to find somewhere to put my bike!

IWRATS. Haggard mess. Opposed to Paolozzi, keen on ravenry. Once had both a bucket of mercury and a place to take it. Loyal to worthy things. I ride an outlandish purple hybrid.

We did have a sort of welcome/introductions thread in our formative years.

When you think about it, it was very CCEish.

Greenroofer. Innocent commuter led astray by CCE many years ago. The benign influence of this forum means that I now own five bicycles, have organised several Pedal on Parliament Feeder Rides, set up a lively BUG at my work and done my first proper Audax (and waiting for confirmation of the second).

Most often found on the towpath heading to a workplace out of town on a battered black hybrid with hub gears and dyanmo light that is on all the time. Sometimes seen on an green Elephant Bike or a black Brompton.

I'm Cyclingmollie. Thread you are most likely to find me in: Wildlife highlight of the day. Thread you are least likely to find me in: CCE Overnight Capables (those folk are nuts).

Well the rare appearances I make East of Riddrie are often between trains or racing the Citylink 900 coach to Haymarket or Shandwick Place to go to Glasgow.

Mostly this is with a Brompton - and stopping to take pictures of anything odd in the transport field, and Edinburgh's disintegrating tram tracks.

I'm SallyHinch chipping in here and there from rural Dumfriesshire mainly because it's the only cycling forum I know but partly because of organising Pedal on Parliament (POP), Walk Cycle Vote and the Women's Cycle Forum Scotland.

When in Edinburgh I mostly ride my Brompton, but at home I mostly ride a steel-framed tourer rebuilt for me by Common Wheel and since Mrs Armitaged with the addition of Brooks saddle, dynamo, Crane bell and a kickstand. Next on the list will be a wheel lock.

Also SallyHinch on Twitter and Instagram, and I blog about rural life (and cycling) here https://cityexile.wordpress.com/

Best not to look for others, you’ll only be disappointed.

You'll find me mostly in West Edinburgh , commuting and shepherding the kids around. Multiple bikes, trailers & attachments - too many to mention...

Previous experience with small kids & long rides (not necessarily at simultaneously), now on to bigger kids and more 'interesting' challenges.

Continual frustration with poor infrastructure combined with my stubbornness has lead to some long running campaigns including Roseburn & Garve. No where near as much success as I would have liked...

    "Mrs Armitaged"

Nice description! (But, not wanting to diss your bike or anything, but sounds like you've a way to go to match Mrs Armitage).

I ride about slowly to the shops / work / pubs / occasionally across continents. At present I am a cycle campaigner manqué. My most interesting life achievement to date is being bitten by a mole. I am currently losing sleep about climate breakdown, specifically peat fires in the Arctic.

I have a boring real-name twitter, and from time to time I remember to post about bike trips at @bear_buffet

    Interesting name though.

I have about 10 Twitter accounts for different projects (some lapsed).

Rides a matronly silver Colorado Dawes hybrid with battered leaky panniers. I do gentle touring in the UK. I volunteer for Spokes and run the Spokes Facebook page, so always after breaking news about infrastructure with pictures. The battle against the CCWEL in Roseburn has sent me to the unsafe space of Murrayfield Community Council meetings.

I have a garage full of slightly unsatisfactory steeds but my current (joke, haha, geddit? No...) is a mighty black e-bike which I have added pretty floral stickers to, to make it a bit more girly. I sometimes tow a 4yo in a trailer and can be found on the NEPN cycling to work. Another Murrayfield local, I avoid MCC meetings like the plague. I'm on Twitter too but can't link from work - @livia1521 will find me.

I don't really know any forumites in real life although I wave hello to @hankchief when I see him on his big rig on the school run.

Alternate between a new (super boring) commuter Focus with belt drive, hub dynamo, hub gears & full mudguards etc… and an overly completed 29er MTB, depending which is in the bike hospital.

Can often be found arguing with mobile using drivers on Seafield Rd and Leith Walk.

Tweets from @verylightblue mostly advocating direct action against pavement parkers.

Uncomfortable going further west than Dean Village, once went as far as Corstorphine. Plans to outlaw raisins, sultanas, and currants when Master of the Universe.

Thinks IWRATS’s plans for bike thieves are too lenient.

Edited to add Cake. I really love cake. Thanks to @Amir for the reminder.

A fairly slow plodder who can be seen on the Silverknowes path from 8:20 onwards and 17:20 onwards going home. On a MX Boardman and in my mid fifties.

Done my first ever big cycle challenge in June, when I cycled the Hebrides - hard but brilliant :)
