News just starting to come through about a fatality on today's ToB sportive.
Very sad to hear.
Condolences to family and friends of the rider. I'm still bit shocked myself and sure lots of riders are (though I wasn't on it, I know the event well).

How sad

They apparently had to close the road for the long route and route people down the short route. The crash must have happened not long after I passed through that point.
The word at the finish line was that they crashed off the side of a bridge.
I saw a lot (3+) of other crashes however. I don't know why there were so many. It was a bit wet and quite narrow, although most of the crashes I saw were on wide uphill sections. I took the descents very wimpily after seeing it all.
Someone overtook me and nearly took out my front wheel at one point, I think a lot of sportive riders aren't used to group riding. I may get a little jangly bell which constantly rings for my next one, I saw (and heard) a rider with one and thought it was very effective.
