Jackson Carlaw back in action in Scot Squad, The Chief's Election interviews last night. Don't normally watch but was quite funny.
When asked about the 'Get Brexit Done' slogan he pointed out that this was the English Tory slogan.
    The Scottish Tories have this:
"No to Indyref 2. Get Brexit sorted. Unleash Scotland's potential!"

Snappy. And what does he think of BJ? Many a true word spoken in jest!

Surely no one in Scotland imagines that Brexit will be 'done' any time soon? It's a cultural revolution, not an act of parliament.

Racists to the left, and racists to the right, we truly are scrwed as a society if we can't stamp out this fundamental problem...

3 prospective Scottish MP's have had to resign from their parties over racism, and also one of the people tasked with investigating it...

Brexit has been “one of the most spectacular mistakes” in the history of the European Union and followed a campaign marked by “an unprecedented readiness to lie”, Donald Tusk has said.

“had to resign from their parties over racism”

Yes, though internet stupidity has also been a factor.

    Meanwhile:

Some people get by with a belated apology -

PM says sorry for describing Muslim women in veils as ‘letterboxes’

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/05/boris-johnson-says-sorry-for-any-offence-caused-by-burqa-article

(Plus the full-on self-deceit that anything he writes for money is merely ‘humorous’ and not to be taken seriously - because ‘obviously’ he didn’t mean anything by it.)

Indeed, that's not helpful. Tory and Labour down south not dealing with this problem well.

At least the Scottish parties (and I even include the Tories) seem to be taking a stand on it.

Some comments on this thread about the world we are entering etc if Tories win again.

My biggest concern is that it's already here, and more worryingly still is that up here we see racism as an English problem, when clearly it's a UK problem, and given (some of) the Jewish communities concern over a Labour govt, especially one led by JC, not just a right wing problem either.

Yes, lots of stupid 'interneting' too, and also I think a lack of knowledge of what racism actually is, or at least a lack of understanding of what harm comments can have on a community. I had a conversation on Facebook about the Fife candidate, and one person couldn't see what the problem was. "What if Soros was a Scottish Christian" he said, "would it have been racist then". The point didn't seem to be understood that he (Harvey) wouldn't have said it if that was the case.

People talk about a Jewish community and a gay community and so on and I wonder what and where these communities are. Do they have a head office? A constitution? Elections?

I seem not to be a member of any communities. As far as I know.

Michael Gove says EU nationals have never been allowed to voted in general elections or a referendum in the UK, saying “we just think it would be unfair”.

He compares it to starting to play a rugby league final – where there are 13 players on either side - and then one team deciding to switch to rugby union and bringing two extra players onto the field, saying “that simply wouldn’t be fair”.

Where to even begin with that?

Sounds almost like Mr Gove is unaware of Scottish affairs. Odd, given that he was born in Edinburgh and lived in Aberdeen til he was 22. And his dad still lives in Aberdeen.

@IWRATS. You are a member of the Cycling Community, which is another out group.

Presumably people use the 'community' because it sounds nicer than just saying 'gays' or 'blacks' (and I think it does).

They don't worry about offending the cycling community: they just call them 'cyclists', because "they're all the same. I mean, some of my best friends are cyclists and in fact I'm a cyclist myself, but they do all run red lights and ride on the pavements."

    @Greenroofer

Ha, we certainly are an out group. But if a TV talking head tells tales of the cycling community's concerns - expressed through Spokes or Cycling Scotland - would I be included?

I suspect that the word 'community' is attached to increase the apparent weight of what are actually pressure groups.

Not just pressure groups. I presume you live in a house or flat, take the bins out for old neighbours, or go to the shops for their milk; clear the street of snow in the winter, or help clean the stair, or beach/park, complain about the weather to your neighbours.

    Community...

Johnson’s claim that naughtiest thing he had ever done and was “prepared to admit” was riding his bicycle on the pavement.

Nothing good can come of this election. It's like an amputation - you just hope it's painless and infection doesn't set in.

Is that really that bad in this day? He's done much worse stuff since being PM!

All of the TV debates, all of the opinion shared here/twitter/facebook/round the dining room table. Has anyone here changed their mind about who they are going to vote for?

Looking at polls Tories are on 42% which is exactly what TM got as a vote share. Of course some seats meay change here or there, but what was billed as the most important GE of our lives is probably going to change, well nothing...

With a bit of luck a lot of the millions of newly registered young voters will come out and blow the polls out of the water.

@Baldy Cyclist, I'm considering a change of vote this time round. Westminster elections are designed to ignore the majority of voters opinions anyway so unless you have strong feelings for or against the leading two parties candidates in your constituency your vote will be ignored.

I am stuck on the fence about which Union I support more (UK or EU) so less inclined to tactically vote against SNP.

My personal preference doesn't align strongly with any party at the moment so I will be picking a minor party with no chance of winning my constituency.

I voted for the winning candidate last time but unless a lot of people do the same as me or there is a swing from Tory to SNP I don't there will be a change.

Under the insane electoral system it matters a great deal where the 42% Tory voters are. If there's 42% in every constituency they'll win them all.

    @acsimpson

My vote will certainly go in the bin. Like you I have to pick the party I disagree with least and that fact is starting to make me quite angry. I live in Scotland's safest seat so it's immaterial anyway.

Meanwhile in Finland they just get on with things... sure they have problems but at least different viewpoints are covered in cabinet.

When is this kind of false representation or fabrication or outright lying going to be stopped. It's really disgusting and disgraceful that national news outlets and political parties can do this kind of thing and get away with it without punishment.

Does anybody at all think the UK of GB&NI's majoritarian voting system is a good idea? Anyone?
