Lets do the time warp again. Scotland is, after all, a drain on national resources.

@Rosie If "46% pro indy parties, 54% against." is a valid indicator of whether Scotland wants indepdendence, then surely the 85.1% of UK votes that went to explicitly pro Brexit parties in the 2017 election (and 55.9% in Scotland) must also be a valid indicator of what people want(ed)?

The fact that polls from 2017 showed a majority for remaining demonstrates that it very clearly doesn't.

I can't pretend to know how a referendum tomorrow would go (the election may or may not have moved the needle from the last poll on the matter). But basing it off of that 46% figure is pretty weak.

If there was a strong indication that 45% of any sane, normal country* wanted something then that sane, normal country would just have a vote on it to find out. This wouldn't be seen as a terrifying or destructive prospect.

*The UK of GB&NI is currently stark naked, chewing the furniture in the dark.

Dumbiedykes housing estate in Edinburgh. Ten days before the election, I was in the Dumbiedykes estate in Edinburgh, a high-rise scheme a few minutes’ walk from the Scottish parliament, where a shrinking working-class community is hanging on in the face of gentrification.

Yep. This is the film he made in Dunbar and Edinburgh at the time. Well worth a watch.

Very good short film. 'Politics too important to be left to politicians.' Helping Hands project in Dumbiedykes collected whole load of food at Hibs ground. Aberdeen fans brought stuff too (and their team lost).
Younger volunteers packing bags at Easter Rd were pro Indy although food banks are not going away if incomes stay down.
Many were very anti all parties and Tories in particular. Seemed to be a theme.

Meanwhile Westminster is possibly about to tear up promises about worker's rights now BJ is safely in power. In Holyrood the Labour and LibDem parties are urging SNP to forget about Indy and use its 'substantial powers' to mitigate bad stuff from the parliament in south.

You’d struggle to find a UK politician who would sincerely argue that more everyday cycling for transport would be anything other than very good. That argument is over.

    Well, maybe.

An EU source said: “In reality, if we can’t agree on fish then we really are in trouble.”

    From above

If you want an example of the sort of people we need to find in Britain, look at this on CC Myers — the legendary builders. SPEED. We urgently need people with these sort of skills and attitude. (If you think you are such a company and you could dual carriageway the A1 north of Newcastle in record time, then get in touch!)

I didn't risk clicking on that link!
I mean would it be safe? ;-)

Then again this government have a history of incompetence and now have more people with less experience dedicated to not criticising their leader.
So would a government that wasted money hiring non existent cross channel ferries and paying 30 million out to Eurostar in damages really be that organised?
Led by a man who solemnly promised to get a British woman out of jail in Iran after he helped increase her sentence through his clumsy comments when foreign secretary.

Mrs LB went to Glasgow today along with a few others (not Pat Kane - just using his tweet)

Lots of wet saltire flags... trains and ferries cancelled too so plenty more could have come.
Then again it's not about numbers according to BJ and 'Farmer Jack'.
These were clearly the wrong type of people :-)

Cleverly said: “The PM made a light-hearted statement about Big Ben. Trust me, this is not the most pressing issue in government. There’s a lot of interest, and it’s fun, and it’s good media knockabout.”

I think this is relevant here -

“McGrath is now finally coming to terms with the past. She sees parallels between her own search for identity and Brexit. “I think this country is traumatised by its own history. You did not conquer three-quarters of the world with pleases and thank-yous. It caused so much pain around the world and now this country is going through a search for identity.”

"...who pops across the border every now and again for a few hours."

...meeting hand-picked audiences in closed environments and sneaking out of back doors where necessary to avoid disapproving crowds. Maybe those Lyon Court people who proclaim forthcoming elections could lend him a hat and cape from their dressing-up box and escort him to the Mercat cross to proclaim stuff to some of the actual public.

You did not conquer three-quarters of the world with pleases and thank-yous.

The notion of an empire as a free trade zone is one of the more amusing inversions of recent times.
