Hmmm. Anyone any idea why we are dropping the quarantine period for travllers from Spain at a point where France is considering imposing restrictions on the Spanish?

@stiltskin - I suspect trade union pressure on airport jobs is a factor. It shouldn't be of course.
Assume people wanting to sample the beaches of the Kattegat in Sweden still have to wait?

'there is concern about an outbreak of Covid-19 cases at a call centre in Motherwell that carries out contact tracing for the NHS.'

The Sitel company involved are based in California with offices here - have contracts carrying out Test & Trace for NHS England.
The outbreak has been investigated by NHS Lanarkshire using the non privatised Trace & Protect here.
Reports were that not enough seating at break time and that people couldn't work at home.
If the outbreak had happened in England it could have been investigated by another private call centre Test & Trace Sitel team? :-)
    You couldn't make it up.

Donald Trump has admitted that the coronavirus pandemic is likely to “get worse before it gets better” at his first press briefing devoted to the issue since April.

Facing dire poll numbers, surging cases and sharp criticism for lack of leadership, the US president returned to the White House podium attempting to show more discipline in both style and substance.

The government’s flagship test-and-trace system is failing to contact thousands of people in areas with the highest infection rates in England, raising further questions about the £10bn programme described by Boris Johnson as “world-beating”.

Utter moneygrubbing insanity. Shame on Underbelly (well named, not for the 1st time) and the council.

'Coronavirus: Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party tickets are on sale'

Beeb story and headline have changed. Now the headline is "Coronavirus: Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party tickets withdrawn". By gembo's pal Angie Brown. Volte face or Beeb screw up - who knows?

For reference, this was the text of the original article:

"Tickets for Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party are on sale with organisers saying it "will be a pivotal moment for the world".

A meeting on Tuesday started looking into how Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay could be celebrated at the end of the year.

Organiser Underbelly said it was "excited by the events being discussed".

A final decision on this year's activities is expected in late August.

Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, directors of Underbelly, said: "We're working closely and positively with City of Edinburgh Council and other partners on plans for Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay.

"This will be a pivotal moment for the world both to reflect on 2020 and to look to the future, and the safety of Edinburgh's residents and visitors is critical to how these plans evolve.

"We're excited by the events being discussed and look forward to sharing the details in the coming weeks."

    'Positive discussions'
Adam McVey, City of Edinburgh council leader, said: "The council is having positive discussions on how Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay could be celebrated this year.

"All involved recognise the uncertainty of the current situation and the significant requirements for anything Edinburgh hosts to meet public health guidance.

"It's clear that if our 2020 winter festivals go ahead they will look very different from recent years, using different locations across the city.

"It is also important to think more creatively about how to better support our local businesses who have been impacted by the lockdown."

The tickets are priced at £21.50 with 50p from every ticket being donated to the Brain Tumour Charity."

The centre of Edinburgh has become like a giant architectural museum that no-one is visiting, suggesting the city may struggle to recover from the economic effects of the coronavirus, writes John McLellan.

    Self-fulfilling prophecy.

I mean if John McLaughable goes around telling everyone that the city centre is dead and everyone is going to Fort Kinnard or Amazon, then that's what'll happen.

Is that what you want, cos that's what'll happen? <Fast Show ref>

Central edinburgh had at least two different American tourist families yesterday. Traffic was busier than when I was in a couple of weeks back. More shops open.

He continued, ask yourself why the Eskimos have never heard of cancer. Blah blah, Alzheimer’s is caused by amalgam fillings blah blah

He is passing any fines on to the Committee of 300 who are a group of British aristocrats who control the world.

If you thought that was wigged out, check the Glenwood Salon Facebook page. Totally nuts!

I can't figure out if the owner really believes all this crap or they're just courting controversy for the publicity, National Enquirer/Daily Star style.

Anyway, unlikely if any of us will be seeking a hairdresser in Glenrothes, but if so: watch your step!

"Scottish Government reintroduces Spain 14-day quarantine period."

Apparently other devolved admins in rest of UK are doing same thing though FM is getting flak.

    From Guardian...
“The Joint Biosecurity Centre together with Public Health England updated their coronavirus assessments of Spain based on the latest data. As a result, Spain has been removed from the list of countries from which passengers arriving in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are exempted from the need to self-isolate. We’ve always been clear we would act immediately to remove a country where necessary.”

In a twist, Grant Shapps, the transport secretary who has been instrumental in drawing up the air corridor plans, was understood to be already holidaying in Spain,

"But it must be particularly galling for Shapps, and indeed the wider Shapps family, that there in fact appears to be one rule for all the rest of the government, which is not to bother with the rules, and another for Grant Shapps."

Opposition parties now claiming that ScotGov was wrong in imposing quarantine against Spain in the first place?
Then they were right in lifting it to make rules same on both admins (or not as some of us suspected?)
They are now wrong agreeing with other devolved NHSs?
Pressure from Unite and airports / airlines immense to unlock. Still is.
Holidaymakers that went out via southern airports will be many thousands. Was England wrong then as keeping tabs on all these returnees will need a lot of monitoring - including Grant Shapp (!)
Of course all travellers were warned that situation will change by all admins.

The paper is yet to be peer reviewed so people, especially tall people are right to be skeptical.
