    As gembo says -

“Rather we should be mindful of our luck and other people’s lack of luck, every day.“

    Neddie -

“Only on the radio this morning they were talking about some people having to choose between "heating their home" and "gifts for Xmas" “

"Personally, I'm not sure that legality or otherwise does make a 'big" difference, if IKEA and Dobbies are continuing to receive footfall far in excess of what could be accounted for by Midlothian residents alone, as reported upthread."

It's possible many of these people are not even doing any shopping.

I spoke to someone recently who works in Primark in Dundee. She said she constantly has to disperse large groups of folk gathered in the store. Because people are not allowed to meet at home, they are meeting up with family and friends in shops instead.

As I said before, this Chrimbo malarky is going to be a great laugh and no mistake.

The total number of people is eight, and social distancing is encouraged between different groups - making Christmas dinner round the table a challenge.

Police Scotland have issued more than 30 travel fines over a week for breaches of coronavirus restrictions.

The force served 33 fixed penalty notices across eight of its divisions in the seven days running up to November 25.

Nine of these were issued in Lothian and Borders, eight in Greater Glasgow and eight in Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland said the figures are indicative and may be higher.

The remaining eight notices were split across Tayside division with three, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde at two and one each in Ayrshire, Forth Valley and North East.

Just found out that a friend down south is in hospital after a very serious bout. she's recovering, but still not well. had isolated as much as possible, as she's diabetic, but caught it from her primary age kids - apparently their school had a bad outbreak. grim.

stay safe everyone. this virus is serious.

There's a bit of an outbreak at Heriot-Watt just now which is likely to skew Edinburgh figures. Not great timing with the plan to send the students home for Christmas 'safely'.

@MB - Underbelly is pretty well disliked by almost everyone it seems. Some questions to answer when we have local talent that is unable to do much at moment. Thinking about Summerhall creative hub and the theatre groups in the city for example. It 'may' be that Underbelly will commission here. Most of our shopping and business expenses go to companies HQ'd outside Scotland. (RBS and FreeAgent excepted but expect they will go South too). Not saying that's good but just is.

On the Twitter storms... agree that IB should have not assumed anything and researched before posting.

Richard Leonard retweeted this from Neil Findlay today. Didn't do his research and now having to apologise.

We are appalled & disappointed that
    @NeilFindlay_MSP
would use our charity image of our soup kitchen for political gain. He never contacted us & has never shown our charity any interest. didn't have the courtesy to acknowledge our charity in his tweet. Do u even know who we are?

Charity has now thanked the Labour party for the publicity and invited politicians of all parties to visit!
Should be on Holyrood thread - thread drift alert!

2nd wave figures worse so far for Scotland than England, but we haven't had a full lockdown (yet) in this country so maybe not surprising.

I think I remember NS was more comfortable talking about comparisons with England when Scotland was faring a bit better over the summer.

NHS bosses plan to enlist celebrities and “influencers” with big social media followings in a major campaign to persuade people to have a Covid vaccine amid fears of low take-up.

Ministers and NHS England are drawing up a list of “very sensible” famous faces in the hope that their advice to get immunised would be widely trusted, the Guardian has learned.

I wouldn't scoff too hard at people not being keen on a rapidly developed drug. We have absolutely no idea what medium term issues it may cause.

On balance I'll probably take it but don't be surprised if its just kicking another can down the road.

A friend of mine in NYC has been vaccinated with the "Oxford" vaccine as part of international trials. I think they said it was two shots, three months apart, if I recall correctly.

I read (in the Graun I think) that the vaccine available next month (if approved) is the Pfizer one that needs to be stored at -70C and can only be moved a couple of times before it destabilises and is unusable. Hence due to the impractical logistics, only NHS personnel will be vaccinated (maybe a few high heid yins in government and key workers too?).

More than half of people applying for financial support to self-isolate are being rejected in some coronavirus hotspots in England as councils report running out of cash and loopholes leave low-income families ineligible.

Thousands of people are being excluded from accessing the £500 one-off payments due to gaps in the policy announced by Boris Johnson two months ago, according to council leaders and charities

@steveo The usual development time isn't all solid work - with the necessary drivers and investment it's apparently quite compressible. Saw a useful explanation about it a few days ago which I'll forward you if I can re-find it.

My understanding is that the testing has been prioritised rather than rushed - gaps between phases while they organise the next one/do other trials/look at data have been taken out and everything that can be done at the same time has been. Sort of like how renovating the same room in a house can take a year if you're doing bits and pieces at weekends or a week if you really go at it with a bit of help.

    Makes sense, thanks jonty.

I guess my only concern is that usually testing starts 5 plus years before approval so even if the delay is not in testing, for example admin and waiting on regulators etc, it still gives time for a longer term side effect to surface.

I'm not saying I don't think its safe or that its a bad idea or anything just that its quite an unusual situation that might make people nervous. I don't even know if the usual drug testing regime would account for my scenario above. In other words I'm havering. Carry on.
