East Craigs has shot up the charts due to an outbreak in the Primary School. A couple of weeks before Christmas it was showing as supressed but not it's sitting well above average.

Several classes missed the last day of term and have had children in isolation over Christmas.

The Christmas holidays came at the right time forcing all the children away for several weeks should supress the virus.

One day he might be correct -

The PM asked the public to "redouble our efforts to contain the virus" - but said he was "confident" things will be "very much better" by 5 April.

Can't see Scottish schools going back on 18th January as originally proposed. Nor should they, probably best not to spread the Xmastide "cheer" around too much...

New Covid strain 'becoming dominant' in Scotland - Sturgeon

Ms Sturgeon said ministers were continuing to assess whether it will be possible to reopen schools in full from 18 January.

Playground chat at the end of term is that Government isn't really expecting schools to go back until after the February break.

The more I look at the stats the more likely this seems, just wish the government would say this properly lets assume that schools are now closed until Febrary maybe even Easter unless numbers drop dramatically.

Aye but then they'd have the ThemForUs brigade getting Beebly hacks to write furious diatribes attacking ScotGov for the crime of refusing to educate the bairns. Even if they do go back on 18th, I may keep our two off anyway. Lord knows what the infection rate will be in a couple of weeks' time.

P.S.:- Local vehicle update, one of the camper vans reappeared in its usual on-street dump slot today. Been away for a week. MOT? Possibly but I suspect more like illegal visiting of relatives and/or holidaying outwith the bounds of Fair Edina.

On-street vehicle storage update. All the leisure motors are now back on the street.

    First floor neighbour reappeared too.

I hope all these folk who undertook Yuletide travel for whatever reason, were socially distancing etc. and that they are not importing a whole bunch of new Covid cases into the local area.

Covid-19 now officially in Cromarty. Apparently due to family having Christmas Day meal with infected relative from London. We need to take this more seriously, folks.

Outside St Thomas’ in the early hours of New Year’s Day, a crowd of Covid deniers gathered, without masks, shouting “Covid is a hoax”. Inside, Carr’s colleagues struggled to save the lives of a growing number of patients.

“The public needs to be aware of what’s happening. This is worse than the first wave; we have more patients than we had in the first wave and these patients are as sick as they were in the first wave. Obviously, we’ve got additional treatments that we can use now, but patients are still dying, and they will die,” said Carr.

"It was minimally affecting children in the first wave... we now have a whole ward of children with Covid here."

Laura Duffel, a matron in a London Hospital, tells Adrian Chiles about the Covid situation in hospitals.

Had to use the Forth Bridge today (pedalling back from extended hsehold stuff). It was really busy there, >100 people, which was irritating. There's not much to be done about potatoes funneling into a one mile long narrow strip for leisure but I wish the bridge operators had had the covid thoughtfulness to open both sides.

    “Us for them”.

I took an unreasonable dislike of them when it was set up, and was pleased to see various folk I know set up 50/50 in competition. (Although I didn’t join either of them),

I didn’t look carefully at them until late autumn, when it become clear that the founder has Conservative party links (fair enough) but has also been mask-sceptical. See for instance https://www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/euan-mccolm-politicians-not-being-guided-science-school-policy-3043276

@iwrats ‘parents’ lobby group insisting schools stay open.

50/50 responded to August plan where students would receive 2/3 of teaching time online to 1/3 in class. They seem more grounded /less shrill.

    This is their web page.

I suspect it’s not the whole story. The interviews with the front lady might be more revealing.

as a campaign group our position is that requiring face coverings for children represents an untested, disproportionate and potentially harmful intervention.

Latest evidence suggests new strain affects YP more than ‘original’.

The head of the english arm of it is definitely anti-mask and retweeting people who claim there is "no asymptomatic transmission" hence children should go back to school without distancing or masks.

Sorry if I'm spamming you guys. It worried me that media gave them a fair bit of airtime previously. Hoping there's now some scepticism about their position.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party – which is seeking permission to rebrand as Reform UK – is planning to use concerns about fishing in its local election campaign in May. But for now, with Farage having announced that the “war is over”, the party is planning to focus more on issues such as the government’s Covid strategy.

"tighter restrictions soon". Why is it always "soon" and never "now"? Time and time again it's shown that delay just makes things worse!
