@iwrats - "One aspect of this thing is that they can bail out Richard Branson"
Grant Shapps more or less said that.
But... legal action will be taken by scores of companies if government appears to favour one business over another.
For example we are up to date with tax but I would be pretty miffed if a business in arrears was given assistance.
Know that is minor consideration at moment but 'socialism for capitalists' already used on banks.
With limitless credit then money as a thing can't really exist? Countries with real assets of course are in better position to gauge value of their I.o.u notes.

As we operate on Google suite there is little or no impact to our business administration operations. However for the 70% of the workforce who work on site most of the time this is a challenging time. We've already adapted two out of four main workflows so that they can happen completely remotely. Work underway on the other two so that we're able to improve those enough to be remote. At the moment those two are just not really happening.

I have a Five Billion Zimbabwean Dollar note on my desk. It expired on the 15th May 2008. 97% of Sterling is just database entries. Could vanish any time.

Doctor friend who regularly stays with his G/F who is a teacher in central edinburgh says both of them have been asked by her flatmates to vacate flat so they don't infect the rest of them.

I can't imagine being one of those flatmates and having that conversation with a doc and teacher. Makes me sad.

    Panic buying bulletin 17/3:

Local shops are busy re-stocking. Still no loo roll, kitchen roll, but soap, bread flour and booze all available. I noticed that tinned tomatoes have gone up in price in Iceland, from 50p (3 for £1) on Saturday to 80p (2 for £1.20) today. This may be a rationing measure, or something else...

Noted quite a few young mums out shopping with babies; also quite a lot of older people. Staff in Iceland and Scotmid all very helpful and friendly. Much appreciated by everyone I'm sure.

I was in Tesco earlier at Hermiston Gait - there was tonnes of fruit and veg. No pasta. No flour. No red lentils. No frozen chips. Tesco man said that the craziest thing he's seen is the people panic buying frozen chips.

Apart from that there was an abundance of most other stuff so I was able to do our weekly shop undisturbed by any crowds (I went very early). I did notice that there were almost no discounts. Clearly companies not really that bothered about discounting to attract the buyers at the moment!

All HES staffed sites now closed until further notice.

    International Science Festival cancelled.

    Museums shut.

Botanic Gardens (Edinburgh, Dawyk, etc.) all closed.

Usually, I'm glad I live on my own - it's a choice. But usually when the word is uncertain or the news is frightening there are people I can go and be with, or who can come to me. Not going to lie, today has been pretty scary.

friend of mine works for Doosan Babcock in Glasgow, can work for home, but not allowed.

Unofficial reason is 'CEO doesn't trust people to work from home".

2 weeks of lockdown for us. My wife has it. I think I’m developing it now as well. My kids are both at home isolated too. Maybe doing Vo2 intervals yesterday up Lauder hill wasn’t the best plan.

Small chance it might be illegal to go to work soon...

(Unless you work in a pub with not enough customers to pay the wages.)

Wish I got to work from home. Hope it does become illegal to make people go to offices. Not 'critical', so supposed to be in the office again tomorrow. Waiting for schools to close for an apparently acceptable reason to WFH.

The study provides confirmation that coronavirus infections are in fact generally less severe in kids, with more than 90 percent having mild to moderate disease or even being asymptomatic. But it contains worrisome information about one subset — infants — and suggests that children may be a critical factor in the disease’s rapid spread.

    @nobrakes

you might find this page helpful

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-symptoms/

i started with a low grade fever which was short lived, fatigue and muscle pain continued. now on week 2 and respiratory is tight and compromised. no dry cough, but thats only seen in 59% of cases.

mornings are now mostly ok and respiratory / fatigue symptoms build up in waves thereafter, which feels strange and unsettling. one minute you are ok, next you are floored. partner has same.

hoping to be healthy again by end of second week. that said i have not been tested and can't know for sure. they really need to increase testing significantly.
