@mcairney Got mine today as well - for Monday next week which I already knew but it isn't much notice at all. Especially not now people can conceivably be on holiday.

It would be interesting PHS published statistics for missed vaccination appointments. Presumably these exist somewhere.

"Think they're doing it by age, post code, surname."
Being a Mrs Z I wonder if that doesn't help....
My younger siblings, and brother-in-law who is even younger, in England, have all had theirs.

@fimm, yeah probably helps to be closer to A in the alphabet.

My younger siblings had theirs before me, they are in Scotland but do not live in a city. Cities are taking longer, and Edinburgh longer than most.

Mine came through today, for Ingliston on the 19th.

Looks like I do have the option of rearranging at the EICC on the 24th, but thinking that I'll stick with Ingliston and cycle out.

@chrisfl. Fine unless you get a reaction quickly? I am cycling to sight hill next week for the Prescott version. Hope not to have reaction, it was more delayed the first jag.

I'm assuming that, particularly at the moment, appointments are restricted by supply rather than administration capacity. So if a jab doesn't go into someone's arm today, then it's no problem getting it into someone's arm tomorrow or the next day.

There's the whole thing about using up vials and batches at the end of the day, but presumably where you end up there is pretty random based on how far you happen to be through a batch when the day ends rather than anything else. And I'd hope they've got their systems for offloading spare jabs at the end of the day pretty effective by now.

A look at the vax stats (Travelling Tabby) appears to show that majority of activity these past few weeks is second shots for older folk. Minority is first shots for younger people. Which might help explain the slowing down.

There's _apparently_ a pretty large Stockpile of vaccines which inexplicably aren't being doled out. This guy has a few threads about it, and how he's worked it out. Can't say with 100% certainty that he's right, but his data seems pretty sound. https://twitter.com/PaulMainwood/status/1392135558126870530

Most of it is already allocated for second doses but there is apparently a huge mRNA stockpile that they were 'saving' for Under-30s because they're not recommended to take AZ. There's a strong argument for accelerating things now that Under 40s have the mRNA choice too. Seems absurd to stockpile more than needed, the best place to store a vaccine is in an arm!

I did wonder if a lot of volunteer vaccinators are now back at their full time jobs now that things are opening up again.

In other news: Glasgow still expected/hoped to be at level two from Monday, despite having a 7 day rate of 70.9 as of 10th May: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-57100228

Dr Linda de Caestecker, director of public health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said the south of the city appeared to be affected and there had been a "cluster of outbreaks" linked to household transmission.

She said: "The rise in cases in certain areas of Glasgow is a cause for concern, particularly at a time of such progress in the fight against the virus across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

"A rise in household mixing seems to be the principal reason for the increase."

She urged everyone to follow the current rules, not the ones which are likely to apply from Monday.

With four days to go. Riiiight...

(Clacks is also just over the 7 day case rate threshold, and West Lothian is close.)

Everyone in Moray is going to be vaccinated early - I think they're already the most vaccinated mainland local authority area - and a similar thing is happening in hotspots in the NW of England. Perhaps a reasonable thing to stockpile for as well? We'd need quite a lot of vaccines to do a surge on Glasgow for example.

Glesca and Moray to stay in Level 3.

That will go down like a lead balloon with the Weeg massive. Cue an exodus of pub drinkers to the wilds of Lanarksire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, etc. in search of indoor alcohol experiences. Also folk ignoring the restrictions and meeting up indoors anyhow, as they probably are already doing (which presumably is the cause of the infections spike).

Boris Johnson was under mounting pressure on Saturday to reconsider Monday’s relaxation of Covid rules in England because of the threat posed by the India variant. His own advisers and independent health experts raised fears that it could lead to a surge in hospital admissions, especially among young adults

Police read the riot act last night in George Square. Why the crowds were aloud to amass in the first place is left as an excercise to the reader.

It looked like they were suggesting they sort of tried to herd them there so they at least had a bit of space to act like imbeciles rather than blocking streets.

“sort of tried to herd them there“

    Sort of...

It’s three miles, presume they caused a bit of mayhem along the way too.

Taiwan reported 206 new local cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, breaking the previous day’s record high of 180.

The outbreak, which began about three weeks ago among employees of the national airline and a connected quarantine hotel, has now produced about 85% of Taiwan’s total number of locally transmitted cases since the pandemic began.

Edinburgh Tattoo cancelled over financial risks

This year's Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has has been cancelled after organisers said the financial risks of staging the event were "too great". The Tattoo was scheduled to take place on the castle esplanade in August. But chief executive Buster Howes said it would be "irresponsible" to go ahead without being able to underwrite the "substantial" losses which would be caused by any last-minute cancellation.

Covid cases continue to rise in East Renfrewshire

Covid rates in East Renfrewshire have risen again, with the council area joining Glasgow with over 100 cases per 100,000 people. The East Renfrewshire rate now sits at 101.5, while the Glasgow rate is at 109.9, official statistics show. That rate is a key indicator of which restriction level an area should be in, with upwards of 50 cases per 100,000 seen as a threshold for level three. Glasgow and Moray are the only areas currently in that level. In Moray, the case rate has now dropped to 40.7 per 100,000, and appears to be on a downward trajectory.

Seems my vaccinator was right to opine that Covid vaccine will become like the yearly flu shot.

Scotland starts recruiting for Covid booster jab trial

The only area of Scotland taking part in the first Covid booster vaccine trial has started its appeal to recruit 185 volunteers.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) will give volunteers a third jab at Glasgow Clinical Research Facility, starting next month.

In total, 2,886 people aged 30 and older are being recruited at 18 NHS sites across the UK for the trial.

Scientists want people who received their first dose of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca jab in December or January to sign up, and hope people aged 75 and over will also come forward.

Professor Julie Brittenden, NHSGGC director of research and innovation, says work by the team based at the facility has been "vital in developing the vaccines that are now being rolled out across the world".

"With this study we are supporting further research into the effectiveness of booster vaccines and hope our community will continue to support this vital research," she says.

EICC very efficient. Nice to be in the main conference room with the seats retracted, the lights on and no corporate visuals accompanied by blaring music for once. Saw a couple of people from my general street sort of area, one of whom was on their second.

    The scene: EICC
She says, whilst opening the syringe. "Have you got an arm you'd like me to pop it into?"
Me: "Why yes! I have actually got two"

Apparently, according to my wife, Lockdown just flew by with me in the house.
