Town centre busy with people partying like it's 2019. Queues of close-packed maskless morons outside pubs and restaurants. Presence of hen parties confirmed.

We saw a low key hen party at The gardener’s cottage last night, all six woman had slender Hawaiian garlands.

@wingpig, it's kinda depressing to see it. Similar in Waverley Mall on Friday afternoon (don't normally go there but daughter wanted some trendy shoes). No hen parties, but I was somewhat alarmed to witness how many folk were sitting in cafes, no social distancing, no mask. I realise some of these will have had the vaccine by now, but really it did seem irresponsible to say the least. Not wearing a mask outdoors is okay as long as you keep your distance, but indoors?

Seems a fair number of folk think we're now back to BAU. Maybe they're right for the moment, but I somehow think the new variants will be here soon and then it won't be fun.

Too busy queuing outside the pub? (Except pubs in Glasgow not supposed to serve booze indoors).

Got my 1st jab on Saturday at South Gyle (the letter arrived before we went on holiday, for the day after we came back!).

Had the following conversation with a nice person on my way out:
    Her "Did you drive here?"
Me: "No, but I came by bicycle."
Her: "Oh! In that case, I'm going to have to ask you to sit down for 15 minutes."
    Me: "Yes, of course."
(I had been planning to do that anyway, as I know they like to keep an eye on you for 10-15 minutes just in case of an allergic reaction.)
    Felt lousy yesterday, fine today.

Mass reinfection party down the Grassmarket this afternoon. Heaving pubs, a heaving queue for the ice cream shop, the majority of participants of the age to be unlikely to already be vaccinated.

@wingpig - you're right- infection rates should go up based on the scenes around High St. Got that festival crowd vibe - lots of people from 'not around here'. Glasgow break outs and up from South?
Roads rammed with traffic. Cycling and walking not attractive in centre of city as more space needs to be opened up.

@chdot, takes fewer than twenty single occupant drivers to create a jam like that. Really cars are ridiculously inefficient transport.

Boroughmuir has teacher infections and isolating, so have asked S5 and 6 to stay home unless they have assessments.

There have been infections at St Thomas of Aquin also, just a handful of pupils, as far as I am aware no staff. Unclear whether infection spread in a school context or social activities outwith school, but the latter seems more likely at the moment.

Letters for the second vaccine shot arrived today. My partner and I have appointments on the same day, within 15 minutes of each other. So far so good.

Mine is at EICC like last time, theirs is at Ingliston! We don't have a car. Unlike myself, my partner is not a confident cyclist. That's over an hour by public transport each way. Madness!

@crowriver: You can reschedule your appointment if you go to https://vacs.nhs.scot/csp?id=csm_login and register using the username on the appointment letter (it does say this in the letter.) Whether you can also move it to another vaccination centre I don't know; I've not tried it because when I registered I was then unable to log back in for several weeks. I did manage to find out my scheduled 2nd jag date the one time it let me in, though, which was several weeks ago whereas my actual letter arrived on Wednesday this week for the appointment on Tuesday next week, so less than a week's notice. Not a major issue for me as I'm retired now, but for people with busy lives it's far from ideal.

First jag for me and the missus was same day, same time, both at EICC. This time round she's the day before me. But we're both beyond the 12 week recommended gap between jags. I called the helpline listed in the letter and they said that the advice they'd received was that this was acceptable. I didn't attempt to reschedule because I was concerned that I'd end up with an even later appointment. (I'm told by folks over the border that the system in England - which I believe is nationwide rather than the patchwork we seem to have in Scotland - requires you to relinquish your booked appointment before booking a replacement, which is hardly ideal).

I get the distinct impression that NHS Lothian's vaccination processes are a bit of a mess. This probably contributes to it continuing to be the worst performing health authority in Scotland in terms of % of population vaccinated, along with Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Lothian is slightly worse for 1st doses but slightly better for 2nd doses). Given that then, although the appointments they offer may not be ideal, it would probably be helpful if people could do their best to make their offered appointment, or at least reschedule online or over the phone as advised in the letter.

You can definitely change it to another site within the Lothians.

I had to push my appointment back a day. EICC was the only centre I could find with any available slots and it has lots.

To confirm you can change site and there is no need to relinquish your apartment before making a new one.

The only slight difficulty is the need to search each site individually.

AFAIK the appointments are generated centrally at a national level, not by NHS Lothian. That would certainly explain sending someone out to the very outskirts of the council area when EICC would be far more sensible.

The online re-booking seems a faff with registration etc. - hoping for joy from the telephone helpline...

Isn’t the appointment registration process the same as the one to get your covid certificate/letter? That was easy, as long as you have your letter.
