We didn't register to receive letters, they just arrived. Most likely based on GP patient lists. Figured out the online thing. According to helpline, no new appointments available on the system, try again on Monday...

I meant the letters you get to say that you’ve had your jab(s). You can download them. I think (but am not sure) that it’s the same registration as the one to change your appointment.

Ah yes I see what you mean. That makes sense, as there's a username system tied into it.

I managed to rearrange my appointment from Bathgate to the centre at Edinburgh Park. There were free spots there every day next week.

Can one cycle to the drive through vaccination centre? Apparently says not suitable for pedestrians.

Can one cycle to the drive through vaccination centre? Apparently says not suitable for pedestrians.
Have heard from two people who tried - one was successful and the other was turned away.

@gembo: fimm reported having cycled to the South Gyle vaccination centre (which I assume is the same as Edinburgh Park - the RBS building AIUI) a few days back on this thread.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Doesn't "drive through" imply that one stays in one's car? The place I went to (ejstubbs is correct), you could arrive by whatever mode, but you walked into the building to be vaccinated.

The (ex) RBS Younger Building was used for flu vaccinations last winter, but that was all done in the car park and was definitely drive through only. As fimm says, and as another pal of mine also reported, for the coronavirus vaccinations you walk in to the building (now, at any rate: it might have been drive-through only when the vaccination process was getting off the ground). AFAICS from this web site - which talks about car parking - the same is true of the Royal Highland Centre site.
The full list of NHS Lothian vaccination sites is here: https://www.nhslothian.scot/Coronavirus/Vaccine/Pages/Venues.aspx (note that the links on that page take you away from the NHS Lothian vaccinations web site - the one for the Younger Building is snuff all use other than as a way to find its location on Google Maps).

I cycled to the Younger Building, no issues, security guard pointed me in the direction of the racks (to the East of the building), obviously not drive/cycle through.

Qmu Drive Through
Pal was going to cycle but did not want to risk it for a biscuit
One of my funnier lines, I thought then even though I have changed my mind. Even Stuart Dredge laughed
From tannoy of minibus driven round stenhouse. Don’t Risk It Don’t Let Alex Salmond Eat Yer Biscuit

@gembo: Qmu Drive Through
Which isn't stated anywhere on that NHS Lothian web site or the links from it. Indeed, the QMU web site that it links to states very clearly: "Our campus is easily accessible whether you are travelling to us by bike, foot, public transport or car."
Helpful not.

I went to QMU and the only advertised entrance is via the A1 so I assumed cars only. Mildly annoying as it takes me longer and about double the distance going by car vs bike
Posted 4 years ago # -
@ejstubbs, I made the same point elsewhere recently. The NHS website is of very little help if you are looking for non-car options, merely suggesting that travelling by public transport is allowed for the purposes of essential journeys, and giving no information at all about drive-throughs, except a minor note in the Parking section a third of the way down the FAQ that the drive-in is at QMU.
My appointment was at The Pyramids in Bathgate, so I had to get a lift. The only reason I didn't call to request an alternative was that I was due on a Friday which gave me the weekend as contingency. The Pyramids does have some Sheffield stands around the corner from the main entrance (here) but no-one in their right mind would want to cycle there.

Tuesday morning’s 45-minute internet outage, which knocked out the Gov.uk domain as well as a string of publishers and other websites, cannot easily be dismissed as an isolated event. It demonstrates a lack of resilience at the heart of critical government services.
Anybody wanting to book a Covid test in the late morning on Gov.uk would have struggled. There is an alternative method, by phone, but who knows the number to call: 119? Government services that once delivered by form and post, then call centres, now only really exist through online connections.
“

I wonder how the same journalists would react to the cost of having resiliency to cover a 45 minute outage once every 10 years.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Good question!
Remains to be seen whether ’only’ 45 mins was good or bad luck and if (only) “every 10 years” turns out to be the case.

Apparently drop in clinics tomorrow at Lowlands Hall (where is that?) and Pyramids for over 40s for first jab and second jab if 8 weeks since first. aZ only.
As Edinburgh higher than Glasgow now

Ingliston.

Hmm, that's the centre where there were huge queues yesterday: https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/health/covid-scotland-delays-and-huge-queues-seen-again-outside-edinburghs-biggest-vaccination-centre-3263929
Queues were reported ‘right back to the car park’ at the Royal Highland Centre in a repeat of the delays reported at the venue last month.
One person told the Edinburgh Evening News they arrived on Monday for their appointment scheduled for 11:40am only to discover a huge line winding right back into the venue’s car park.
They were seen an hour and a half after their original appointment time. The person said that staff members were seen handing out bottles of water to patients as they waited in several queues.
Some other patients reported being stuck in queues for between two and three hours.
Conversely, I had my second jag at the EICC this afternoon and they had me in (ten minutes ahead of my appointment time) and out in twenty minutes.
Looks like they may be limiting the numbers at EICC for some reason, perhaps because they believe (maybe, unfortunately, with reason) that most people prefer to drive? OTOH Ingliston was getting 25% no-shows a couple of weeks ago, according to that EEN report, so maybe even the luxury of being able to get there by car isn't enough of a draw for a lot of folks.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I couldn't get any appointments at the EICC and assumed it's because it's AZ-only - although apparently seems to be doing Moderna now too.
I got my first jab at lunchtime at Ingleston yesterday and did indeed have to queue for about 2 hours. Was hard to separate any vaccine side effects from the pronounced side effects I got from missing lunch! I saw the water bottle man but at that point I hadn't made it inside yet (where there were toilets) and would have preferred an empty bottle to a full one...
Happy to hear it was a relatively isolated incident. I assume that when you're doing around 5000 people a day, small hitches can cause big problems. Or maybe they budgeted for too many no-shows?

Among the businesses that have not survived the pandemic is the rather fine Italian restaurant Al Dente (formerly Tinelli) on Easter Road. It has been closed since the start of the first lockdown, then the windows were boarded up. Walking past today I was shocked to see the door has been bricked up. I guess it's not reopening then! Further study revealed the walls below the windows have been extended upwards. I'm assuming the owners are converting into a flat to sell or rent out.
Sad, but given the somewhat cramped interior this restaurant was going to struggle with social distancing regulations. I only ate there a couple of times, when it was still Tinelli, very good food and relatively affordable. The rebrand to Al Dente was accompanied by more upmarket pricing which I must admit put me off dining there in recent years.

I had my second Pfizer jab yesterday at Ingliston. I had a late appointment at 1750 and queue was pretty tame compared to these reports. Good job, it was my birthday!
Posted 4 years ago # -
The Ingliston site is a massive operation. It reminded me of the setups in airports. My first jab was a much more homely affair.
