The Pyramids does have some Sheffield stands around the corner from the main entrance (here) but no-one in their right mind would want to cycle there.

I have cycled to or from Bathgate on a number of occasions. Either through the hills or along the A89. The A89 has a SUP all the way from Newbridge which for the most part is surprisingly usable. I wouldn't like to certify it as suitable for a velomobile though as I know there are some parts which are not.

I guess that leaves the second part as to whether I am of right mind or not.

Very nice off road route to the actual Pyramids at Bathgate but doubt that is where the jags are happening

I actually cycled back to Edinburgh from the Pyramids in 1999, ended up working late, just missed a train so decided to cycle.

Got very lost and it took about 3 hours!

Large after-school gathering of mid/late-teens on the riverside below the Avon Aqueduct this afternoon. Must have been at least 20 when we crossed the aqueduct, and we passed more heading that way as we continued through to the Muiravonside Country Park. Social distancing was not being observed (I doubt they were all from the same family). Drink was being taken. (West Lothian is in Level 1 and the outdoor gathering limit is supposed to 12 from 12. It didn't look like a wedding or a funeral..)

@gembo: That would explain it. They seemed to be having a nice time and all the ones we encountered, especially passing on the aqueduct, were perfectly polite. Bit of a pity about the blaring boombox but it wasn't particularly audible once you were away from the canal. Didn't seem to upset the dippers we were watching forage for their nestlings in the Avon below the aqueduct. And frankly not being able to hear yet another chiffchaff droning on could almost be counted as a relief...

Two jags now acquired. Hopefully the side effects won't be as crap as last time. So far just a sore arm...

EICC was markedly busier than last time, lots more folk going in and out and all the booths seemed to be in use. Still very efficient and only brief queueing was outside main entrance.

Another difference to my experience in March - city centre really busy, and the tourists are back big time. Very obvious AirBnB types trundling suitcases from closes in the Old Town, tour guides and tour buses, hen parties. I remember now how much I hate all that.

It was a relief to get back to Abbeyhill where it's a bit quieter.

Anecdotal, but I heard that the huge queues at the Ingliston centre on Monday were partially caused by people who had weekend appointments not turning up but going on Monday instead. Staff were told not to turn them away.

Partner has managed to rebook appointment away from Ingliston to South Gyle later this week. Still a fair journey from Abbeyhill but easier to get to than Ingliston. Apparently no appointments at EICC for next two months!

In summary, we show that the Delta VOC [variant of concern] in Scotland was found mainly in younger, more affluent groups. Risk of Covid-19 hospital admission was approximately doubled in those with the Delta VOC when compared to the Alpha VOC, with risk of admission particularly increased in those with five or more relevant comorbidities.

Both the Oxford–AstraZeneca and Pfizer–BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines were effective in reducing the risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection and Covid-19 hospitalisation in people with the Delta VOC, but these effects on infection appeared to be diminished when compared to those with the Alpha VOC.

They had linked to an old 'BBC breaking= news' so it looked legit. my (very) bad.

that said, anecdotally, a lot of kids off school/being kept off school because of high rates.

I’m presuming this ISN'T fake news. My bold.

Headaches, a sore throat and a runny nose are the most common symptoms associated with the UK’s most widely established Covid variant, researchers have said.

The data, collected as part of the app-based Zoe Covid symptom study, suggests that the Delta variant first detected in India feels like a “bad cold”, according to Tim Spector, a professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, who is leading the work.

“Covid is … acting differently now, it’s more like a bad cold,” he said. “People might think they’ve just got some sort of seasonal cold, and they still go out to parties … we think this is fuelling a lot of the problem. So, what’s really important to realise is that since the start of May, we’ve been looking at the top symptoms in all the app users, and they’re not the same as they were. So, the number one symptom is headache … followed by sore throat, runny nose and fever.”

Got my 2nd dose today at South Gyle - pretty busy in the hall for those with bookings; the other hall for drop-ins was quiet so might be worth a visit if you are waiting for your 1st or 2nd.

Are people waiting for their arranged second dose or speculatively turning up for a drop-in?

Just seen a thing saying "if at least eight weeks since your first jab". I'm only on three-and-a-bit.

The builders re-vamping the hard landscaping in our front garden are down one team this week due to them having to self isolate having been 'pinged' by the trace & trace app.

Rough for them but frustrating for us because we can't fill our massive new planter with topsoil until the wiring conduit which is a key part of the spec has been installed.

Here's a link for those drop-in clinics. Took me quite some time browsing various NHS websites before I found it.

Today's update for new cases in Edinburgh on the PHS website looks scary.
Monday's new cases per 100,000 are at 97 (and that's still incomplete, so the number will rise). That's per day, not per week! So unless things start stabilising, we're looking at a weekly number of 700 soon.
97 is more than 2.5x last week Monday's number and almost twice the peak daily number in the December wave.

I don't really see how the numbers will start decreasing without any intervention.
