@nobrakes - sorry to hear.
City centre is one big test lab. Most rats think that sunshine and beer will keep them safe it seems.
Scottish record increase today. Over 4k new cases. No idea which area is worse. Risky all over.
Posted 3 years ago # -
@Laidback, according to TravellingTabby biggest increases in cases are Glasgow, Edinburgh, the two Lanarkshires and Fife. Also Renfrewshire, D&G recording large increases. Digging into local area data plenty of rural areas with big increases per 100k population. I'm assuming this is due to visitors bringing the virus with them on their so-called 'staycations' (nothing of the sort). Further west you go, the worse the case rates get. Top 19 plague pits all on the west side of the country. Then it's Methil flying the east coast colours in 20th place. Then all westies again until Mountcastle in Edinburgh at 29th in the most infected chart this week.
Seems there's nowhere to hide from the plague, whether you're wandering the streets of an overcrowded festival city, heading to seaside or the hills, or parking up your camper van in a popular scenic spot...

@nobrakes
Sorry to hear that and hope that it is mild this time (I'm sure it will be. Fingers crossed)

We're (financial services) being 'encouraged' to try going back for two days from a couple of weeks' time, with every other desk empty, a one-way system in corridors, desk-booking and masks when moving between areas of the building. Might also be colour-coded lanywards but I shall be wearing red T-shirts and a mask all the time to make my stance clear. I shall not be entering any poky, poorly-ventilated meeting rooms and will minimise my time there with supplementary WFH in the early morning and after getting home so that I can still take/fetch children and do house stuff. I've asked and have yet to hear about what the procedure will be for notifying colleagues in the event of any positive tests etc. We've also recruited a couple of far-away people in the past eighteen months who won't be expected to turn up for two days a week so we're questioning if it's fair to expect the same attendance from us, given that two days in the office for some means four hours on public transport as well as time in the office.

I've been in my single-occupancy office most of the past year. a handful of other staff in too (3-6 on my floor).
Building had an excess of one-way signage etc, given that you almost never encountered anyone else in the building.
Now that they are planning to bring staff back, they have bizarrely removed ALL the one way signage and systems, and just left signs on windows about ventilation.
I may revert to working at home.

England will not be using vaccine passports now.
Announced this morning to BBC's Nick Robinson by their health secretary Javid. If I was an MP in WM I would be extremely angry that policy changes are made public via the media before being announced in a parliament.

And, as if by magic, the football clubs are labelling Scotland's vaccine passport scheme "impractical". Could the interests of big business somehow coincide with those of the Tory government?

I do realise there is a range of views with regards proof of vaccination being available. Seems to me odd that people are happy to get receipts for a bought item on their phone but wouldn't want genuine proof of having had the jags.
Whether that 'passport' is ever used in more than late night venues or leaving the island is side argument.
EG. We had online pass for Eurobike (Friedrichshafen Germany) but the real tickets asked for proof of vaccination and test results.
So without this info we would not have been allowed entry if we had gone (too long by train and still long & expensive by air).So anyone thinking of travelling outwith Scotland will need to consider this. RW media think it's a direct hit on 'authoritarian ScotGov' though, as any scheme here will be a problem for England's non 'passported' citizens.
Lastly - someone we know in their 40s will not take any vaccine. She is not anti but prefers to choose. So of course a lack of proof will be a problem for her.

I think passport vaccines are a good idea as it will encourage a lot of anti vaccers to get them. No doubt the human rights brigade (and not forgetting ACH) will be going on about human rights but we need to get this thing under control as hospitals are swamped.
My work are wanting me back in the office a few days a week but I have refused as I don't feel it's safe and contrary to Scot Govt who are wanting firms to support staff working from home. I also gave the derby a body swerve despite being a season ticket holder as you don't have to wear a mask in your seat so about 95% don't.
No shock in football being against the passports and IMO they should just be told find a way or half your crowd.

Covid involved in 37.4% of deaths in unvaccinated people in first six months of 2021 – but just 0.8% of deaths in fully vaccinated people
The Office for National Statistics has published a report on Covid deaths in England by vaccine status between 2 January and 2 July this year.

Covid is running rampant through micro-Morningsider's class, just as it did in mini-Morningsider's class before the end of the summer term. This isn't a criticism of the school or teachers, but it seems clear that the Scottish and UK Governments have decided just to let the virus rip. No idea why it has taken so long to come round to the idea of vaccinating 12-15 year olds.

The behaviour of some parents certainly isn't helping things. We've had two messages in the last week at South Morningside relating to pupils who've been sent into to school while family members are awaiting PCR results and have since gone on to test positive. People need to take it seriously.
My wife and both kids had Covid a couple of weeks ago, we think the younger one caught it at nursery first as they had a positive contact which meant we got her a PCR. They all had mild cases and vaccine seemed to be effective for me, thankfully.

"been sent into to school while family members are awaiting PCR result"
This is now within the rules, the kids can go to school even if there is a +ve test in the family.
The only person who has to isolate is the person waiting for a test. Even if they are +ve the rest of the family don't have to isolate, but do have to take a lateral flow every day.
Neice tested positive two weeks ago, the other two kids expected to go to school, though her mother kept them all off and isolated the family for 10 days.
The new rules are silly...

@Baldcyclist not quite - under 5s don't need a PCR but everyone else in the household has to stay at home until the family member test result is received. If it's negative then they can all break isolation, if it's positive then the over 5s need to get a test and can only leave isolation if it's negative. They're under no obligation to keep getting tested while living with their positive family member - that's the crazy part.
See the "Close Contacts" section at https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/test-and-protect/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-infection

does anyone have any info about the drop in centres for 12-15 vaccines?
Posted 3 years ago # -
https://www.nhslothian.scot/Coronavirus/Vaccine/Pages/Drop-in-Clinics.aspx
So EICC is closed. nothing else in central Edinburgh, except possibly a bus at Napier? which may only take 15+?
anyone know more?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah it's not clear whether EICC is closing down for good, or just today?
If it's closing permanently, then I suppose it's local vax centres from Tuesday...
EDIT - seems it is closing down permanently. That's a bit disappointing, they could have kept it open until the 12-15s have had a shot...
Posted 3 years ago # -
Not being done in Ed/Scottish schools?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Apparently next week they will get invites. Not clear where to - sighthill maybe for us?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Drop-in clinic is a quicker option. When 16-17 year olds programme was opened I sent our oldest straight off to EICC to get the shot. Will be doing similar with 12 year old, better than waiting for the letter, which will not be sent out for another week at the earliest.

Only if there’s one that easy to get to. We could get to Fort Kinnaird if the innocent wasn’t closed. But all the other plausible ones - Leith, Sighthill - closed on Monday, and not practical after school during the week.
Posted 3 years ago # -
@SRD, yeah they're not making it easy. Leith clinic opens after kids are in school, closes before they get out... (except Friday afternoon).
See you at the bus at Napier tomorrow then! :-)
