Ed1 - key workers are those who now make people with "Social media", "Marketing" and "Public relations" in their job titles realise that they have wasted their lives.

    Actual definition.

“I actually don't know how I'll cope mentally if I can't get outside for 3 months.”

Can’t think of any reason why there should be a BAN on going outside/cycling.

Still expected to go to shops as long as you promise not to panic buy.

PROPER lockdown would involve completely organised delivery systems.

ONLY argument against cycling is risk of falling off and needing hospital treatment.

I've seen more people cycling in the Borders today than I've seen in all our visits here put together. A mixture of leisure and utility cycling.

My understanding of the French rules is that you can't be out at all unless you're doing something essential, be it by bike, car or on foot.

Medic at the press conference specifically cited getting kids out on bikes as an example of what you can do.

I liked this tweet by David Aaronovitch:-

"If you shop somewhere that has no car park you’ll be likely to find everything you need. Hoarders are lazy buggers."

I'm torn between doing the Cargo Cycle Defence of saying you can get 50 family sized toilet roll packs on a cargo bike, or agreeing that supermarkets with car-parks are against all civilised values.

If anyone fancies a nice bike ride and to avoid the panic buyers, Craigies Farm Shop was well stocked with veg, meat, cheese etc.

I'm overstocked with veg. Every time I touched a packet of spinach, a cauliflower, leeks, courgettes, I felt obliged to buy it as I'd touched it. Soup making over the weekend.

Real Foods had empty shelves - pasta, cans of beans.

“Boris Johnson took the extraordinary step of ordering pubs, clubs and restaurants across the UK to close on Friday, and announced an unprecedented wage-support scheme to try to prevent a consequent tsunami of job losses.

Children should avoid team sports and ride their bikes two metres apart to maintain social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries said the Government was not saying to avoid going outside – but to do so in a way which “reduces social contact”.

@bax and @cocoshepherd - today I understood your warnings on false recovery. Had a period of being genuinely frightened that my lungs weren’t working and could do little more than shamble from the living room to the bedroom. I really hope people in poor health can avoid this as much as possible.

Day 7 for me today and feeling fine aside from the destroyed lungs. Hanging in there, even managed to get outside and feel the sunshine. Wife seems to have finally kicked it after ~14 days. Hope everyone else comes through it.

@gembo was that an accident or a wickedly clever play on my name and a classic long and narrow Cadburys biscuit

I volunteered to go into school a couple of times a week. Gives me another valid excuse to be on a bike in these times of trouble.

I"ll probably use a '60s or '70s Dawes Kingpin as they're nice and less efficient so use more calories.

@wfb - good work, schools still open for key workers but not sure where, how etc?
Clinical Director Jason Leitch is from Airdrie and cycles as transport every day.

@joannacherry on Twitter - UKGov want emergency powers for two years
As promised am co-sponsoring a cross-party amendment to #CoronavirusBill designed to probe why UK Govt want #emergencypowers for 2 years & suggesting instead a 6 month cut-off point with allowance for possibility that parliament can’t meet at 6 month point https://t.co/KqQ2nUkjSq

Wife's work only now doing emergency cases. Expectation it will take over urgent NHS trauma cases initially. It has 6 ventilators, which will go into general use. Likely it will eventually become a covid hospital.

No redundancies for now, but cases have been halved.

@cocoshepherd accident alas, I was concentrating on the shepherd/shephard and missed the choc/coco. Glad your wife getting through on day 14. Hope you dont get any more boomerangs

@weefoldingbike - veering away from a folder? Alloway Primary on that BBC Scotland Channel last night. The battery went in remote so we were stuck for some time on that channel with the chunky rugby player and the skinny woman. Benefit was Mrs Garto witnessed an episode of Limmy. She tolerated him. He has a very curious mind. Also ordered flowers for my wee ma from 27 Alloway - friendly woman will still deliver the flowers.

Limmy is super smart. Multi-talented. I have my eye on him as the Alasdair Gray for our age (although he is a teetotal reformed alcoholic rather than a raging drunkard).

@IWRATS yes he is taking the piss out of everything in a dark way.

In his first series he had a sketch in Cottiers where he played a guy who was not going out with his mates anymore as he had become infatuated with his new amour. He introduced his amour to the boys and his amour was a wee old man in a bunnet. This is maybe 15 years ago and has stuck with me. Also writes books. Also Mrs Garto not a fan of white heather or chewin the fat but Limmy’s weirdness appealed. Also called Brian Limmond which i like as we had a Limmond at school and finally he wrote filmed directed and starred solo. So he gets all the dosh. Downside slightly overstretched at times.

I'm getting a six hour shift next Friday supporting someone with a learning disability in their own home (our building has been closed). More of that to follow.

Daughter moved to Australia five weeks ago with uni friend. Organised a job before she left, found a flat. Now her workplace has closed and her friend has returned to the US. May end up paying her to stay there as they have fewer cases.

200km audax, the Snow Hare, due to be run today is cancelled so taking annual leave either side of it to prepare and recover has been a bit pointless. I made energy bars. May go out for a solo ride tomorrow.
