lack of testing is infuriating, there's no excuse, they've let us down badly on this

One of the other interesting snippets from the chap from Johns Hopkins was a potential theory, well two, as to why kids are getting mild form...
1. Their immune system is not as developed as adults because they've not had so many bugs, and the disease attcks the immune system specifically because antibodies 'over react' to it, which doesn't happen in kids.
2. Kids get lots of colds, and so perhaps that cross colinisation of lots of coronaviruses provides some imunity. Could be possible parents of young kids could be partly protected too, becauase they are subjected to more colds than general population.
No data on either, but I like theory 2, perhaps the boy trying to kill me with bugs for the last 5 years had a higher purpose, to protect me from this one, live in hope...

The Italians publish an inforgraphic everyday on their cases, deaths and severity of symptoms. Somewhat depressing to see the mortality rate slowly tick up with every passing day.

@CocoShepherd oh, I didn't mean at all that I didn't think you had Covid-19, I just meant that even a "normal" infection can knock you for six sometimes - and it can feel like you'll never get better sometimes. But I do agree with @bax that testing, testing, testing is important.
(Presumably as soon as they can test to see if you've had it, even if the immunity isn't permanent, it will be a bit of a game changer as it'll ID those who are now safe to work in healthcare etc. without risk of catching it again themselves, and who aren't going to spread it themselves as long as they practice good hygiene stuff. Well, assuming enough tests can be procured/produced - they'd have to start by testing healthcare staff and other key workers, too. Then probably vulnerable folk, and then onward etc.)

Cycled past Drylaw today & pondered what it would be like to be locked down for 12 weeks in one of those tiny flats. Made me appreciate my own personal situation.

Martin Luther 1527, "[Some Christians] are too reckless, disregarding everything which might counteract death and the plague. They disdain medicines; they do not avoid places and persons infected by the plague, but make sport of it. This is not trusting in God but tempting him."

Sorry @unhurt I know what you meant, I just went off on a slight tangent.
@bax there is absolutely no justification for why testing couldn't be done. It's only four PCR reactions. My back of a fag-packet calculations tell me all of the UK tests done so far could have been carried out by two lab workers working flat out for a week. I used to do something similar so I know how it works. As usual it's all down to lack of resources and priority.

Luther's full letter might be marginally of interest to some:

(No, he didn't blog, but this blog has published his letter on "Whether One May Flee From A Deadly Plague")

@Roibeard, I preferred SRD’s condensed version

I'll just be over here, really enjoying the idea of Luther and other Reformation figures as bloggers. (Mid 2000s style, when bloggers used to get all up in on another's comment threads.)

Couldn't get the energy together to pootle down to the allotment this aft: will go tomorrow morning instead, prior to looking on to Teams.
London Road seems fairly busy just now - it is "rush hour" but are so many folk really still travelling to work? Is Holyrood Park closed to vehicles or something?

@gembo, Scotland seems to be following the Belgian model of slightly more liberal lockdown, for now.
Johnson in COBRA meeting as I type this, so maybe full-on curfew with armed troops patrolling streets in a Norn Irn Troubles stylee from tomorrow? Who can tell?

PM to make a statement to the nation at 8.30.
Perhaps, just perhaps, people may finally realise what is about to hit us?

The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland have relented and I salute them for that.

Roibeard - thanks, that was kind of interesting. If you strip away the fire and brimstone and allow for the fact the original is almost 500 years old, it is fundamentally sound advice - look out for each other, look after yourself, civic leaders should do their duty, support health workers who put themselves in harms way, follow the advice of experts in medicine/science, people not following reasonable guidance on preventing the spread of the disease should be punished (although executing them seems a bit harsh).
I see that it is from Volume 43 of a 55 Volume series, some 22,276 pages long! Hats off to the translators and editors - what a job.

I was out on a '69 Dawes Newpin today. Went to Gregg's before we knew it was going to shut and took scripts to the quack.
Played some Bach on recorder. The high notes are horrible. Much nicer on harmonica.
Might have ride by the Monklands canal tomorrow. It's not usually very busy.
I was going to put some spuds into spud bags but didn't get to B&Q in time for compost.
