I thought the official network provider text would be a bit more informative if the idea is to get at people who have so far missed what the internet is saying, but it contained a web link. Maybe a push notification through telly-streaming services?

    IMPORTANT UPDATE

It has been a busy few weeks. We have sold an incredible number of bikes and we want to keep providing affordable healthy options for travel in the coming weeks and months.

However we also need to look after our team and with that in mind The Bike Station will be closing from 24th March until further notice.

This is to give our team time to be on their bikes (2 meters apart) and for us to come up with a plan about how we can keep refurbishing bikes for the years to come.

The Bike Station relies on the sale of refurbished bikes as our main income. With our shops closed this will be challenging times. We will be launching a pay it forward campaign shortly.

Mr fimm has just enjoyed a coffee with two of his regular coffee friends - via Zoom. Seemed to work well.
My sister was also trying to persuade our mother to try Zoom but Mum's a bit cautious with any technology she doesn't know so I don't know if she'll try it.

@wee folding bike & @unhurt: Dobbies is announcing that its stores are staying open. Our nearest garden centre, the Klondyke on Frogston Road West is closed for the moment. Although not as massive as the Sheriffhall Dobbies I reckon its split of goods between actual gardening, food, pets and knick-knacks is broadly equivalent.

I wonder whether HMG should be giving more consideration to this. At this time of year gardens need stuff doing to them if they're not to risk falling in to disarray as the season progresses. Plus it's a way for people lucky enough to have gardens to occupy themselves and get a bit of exercise without leaving home - so long as they can get the materials they need. Though I have to say I'm not entirely sure myself which would be the right decision for the powers that be to make.

My gardener is hoping to be able to make his fortnightly basic maintenance visits during the season. He starts after Easter so in theory the current guidance will have expired by then. Um, yeah, right....

    @ejstubbs

Letting the gardens go slightly wild is extremely good for wildlife and especially the insect population.

So I say, let things get a little overgrown, let the grass get a bit long, don't spray the aphids - they are good for other insects...

If you're desperate for new plants, then now's the time to brush up on taking cuttings and other methods to reproduce plants

“now's the time to brush up on taking cuttings and other methods to reproduce plants”

    Indeed

It’s fascinating how easily some plants grow from cuttings.

Recent cuttings from random rose bushes look like they are going well.

I’ve also sown seeds from dedicated rose hips from some of the same bushes.

Also getting a good success from apple pips from bought apples.

May never fruit - certainly not to ‘supermarket standard’, but in a few years they should have seasonal blossom, attract bees etc.

I planted some tomato seeds two months ago in a sunny porch expecting it to be warm enough to start some for later planting out or keeping indoors.

They are only just beginning to emerge.

By contrast, some ‘salad leaves’ seeds just shot towards the light and won’t ever be edible!

J Freeman - 360 ICU beds but target to double that.
    Car parking charges removed.

FM - Help via small business bonus web.

Quite a big statement - got business phone call in middle. Should be a list somewhere.

"THE number of deaths in Scotland as a result of coronavirus has risen by 2 to 16.

The total number of confirmed cases also sits at 584, though Health Secretary Jeane Freeman says the true figures are probably closer to 2,500.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the latest numbers while updating the Scottish Parliament today."

J Carlaw talking now... backing FM... telling her to keep Johnson on message
MOTs for vehicles. Mentioned Churchill :-)
    (Other insurers available)

P Harvie - suggesting that evictions should be unlawful during emergency. Rented sector very vulnerable. Rent increases should also be banned as many landlords will have mortgage holiday.

W Rennie - bringing up building sites should close. Virgin Hotel and QM Haymarket working today. What is an essential worker?
Holyrood has handed over definition to councils which creates anomalies. Reasoning is that in remote areas then definition different. In rUK it is defined by govs.

Self employed support - nothing firm yet.
230,000 in Scotland. Kate Forbes wants more support not happy with progress. FM optimistic.

Enforcement of lockdown - public health legislation already allows closures.

M Lennon - vulnerable group notification and help. 3rd sector support.

Think SMS makes sense, and as far as I know this is the first time that this has been done! But only 140 characters so a web link does make sense.

If say, you're on holiday and avoiding the news and social media then it's possible that you might not be fully tuned in. So much has changed in the last 10 days!

    “Think SMS makes sense”

    Yes

“so a web link does make sense”

    Yes

    BUT

When you click (will most people??) you get -

    Stay at home

Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (where this absolutely cannot be done from home)
