"Do not travel by motor vehicle to one of our forests ...

We taken the difficult decision to close all our mountain biking trails at all our key centres across Scotland.
The vast majority of our walking trails and the rest of the forest will remain open for use, for those living locally."

@SRD, yes I was "fortunate" to have been close to running out of inhalers just before the full-on panic hit, and got my prescription sorted about 9 days ago. However, my asthma is worse from being in the house and less active than usual, so using more of the blue inhaler, so will run out sooner.....hopefully will not have too many issues when I start running out of this batch...

@chdot, should have been "any of our forests"?
Seems they are now "local forests for local people only" for the foreseeable.

Quick update on my doctor buddy who was turfed out his girlfriends flat by her flatmates. He had a flat secured but was let down the day of signing as the owners wanted to move in (they live in London and have decided to leave London to come to Scotland until this blows over he suspects).

He then managed to get another flat but spotted just in the nick of time that the flat in the new town (near Broughton street) stated in the lease that he could not have a bike in the flat. He thankfully managed to negotiate with then owner and managed to get the flat so he and his girlfriend have somewhere to live for the short term.

As far as we know right now, people are much more likely to be infected by close contact with an infected person than by touching a contaminated surface. That said, it’s still important to be conscious of what we’re touching, especially high-touch surfaces, and be careful about cleaning our hands after touching things. For example, public transit or grocery stores and places where there tend to be a lot of people.

The police forces insist members of the public should not be driving anywhere to walk their dogs or exercise.

However, the Guardian checked with the Cabinet Office, which is overseeing the new restrictions on movement, and a spokeswoman confirmed that the guidelines do not prohibit driving somewhere for exercise or dog walking.

My kids blew their trombone joyously and amusically from the window and the whole street seemed to take part. I just hope that sentiment isn't forgotten.

Downing Street has claimed it failed to take part in an EU scheme to source life-saving ventilators to treat coronavirus because it accidentally missed the deadline.

No 10 initially said it did not take part because the UK was “no longer a member” and was “making our own efforts”.

I know I preaching to choir but I need to vent this.

One of the arguments for not driving away from the city is to stop "everybody doing it" and the objection to the initial pretty relaxed approach was you can't let thousands of vulnerable people die to keep the economy moving.

Yet air quality kills tens of thousands of people a year but its okay that everyone does that and air quality related deaths the cost of doing business.

Apply the arguments the other way around and you'd get lynched.

(edited to add some clarity to one of my "its")

This came across my news feed, I'm worried when I agree with the Spectator. Is it right, is it confirmation bias, am I a closet tory!

    https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/The-evidence-on-Covid-19-is-not-as-clear-as-we-think

The moral debate is not lives vs money. It is lives vs lives. It will take months, perhaps years, if ever, before we can assess the wider implications of what we are doing. The damage to children’s education, the excess suicides, the increase in mental health problems, the taking away of resources from other health problems that we were dealing with effectively. Those who need medical help now but won’t seek it, or might not be offered it. And what about the effects on food production and global commerce, that will have unquantifiable consequences for people of all ages, perhaps especially in developing economies?

    @steveo

We should have discussed what do do about a pandemic once it became obvious that there was going to be one. With retrospect that was at least 2015. But our political system did not allow it.

No well funded lobbying group was pushing for the preparation of a whole-society disaster survival and recovery plan. Many were pushing for us to leave the EU so that's what got done instead.

So we're left with this knee-jerk and I hope it will be OK. My hope is that afterwards we'll priorities robustness in the supply of water, food, shelter, heat, medical care and culture to everyone. If politics stays as a game for posh people we're in real trouble.

    Skimmed Spectator article.

One pretty clear indicator is death. If a new infection is causing many extra people to die (as opposed to an infection present in people who would have died anyway) then it will cause an increase in the overall death rate. But we have yet to see any statistical evidence for excess deaths, in any part of the world.

    My bold. Bold statement.

Governments everywhere say they are responding to the science. The policies in the UK are not the government’s fault. They are trying to act responsibly based on the scientific advice given.

    My bold - really??
