What I got from it all:

The virus does not directly use the host cell to replicate - this virus is self-assembling, from the constituent parts found in the cell.

The virus consists of 3 key parts: RNA, lipid fatty layer and proteins. It falls apart on contact with soap.

UV light from the sun is not strong enough to break the virus down, although UV light from an industrial source could be.

    Good thread:

Yes - EU have ar least tried to share an approach although Sweden are doing own thing.

German planes flying out Italians to better resourced hospitals

Asking UK to join in on ventillator procurement was good.

Note USA has accepted a plane load of equipment from Russia.

UK will be minded to forget about doing any deals with the States at moment at least. America will be wholly occupied looking after itself (declared mission anyway and in stark contrast to their leadership in Ebola crisis)

Common agreement seems to have broken out in UK too although a member of DUP claimed the virus is a divine judgement.

For real Brexitory members CV 19 might be viewed as a distraction from Brexit - they're the ones that think Barnier infected the cabinet!

They are about to learn a painful lesson.

That's probably official signed-off comms for the DUP. They are stern and literal or nothing.

Also just shopped for my olds: kitchen roll is the new bog roll. There is no soap.

Everybody shopping for their people before the weekend? I know I was.

There will be lots of going for drives this weekend no doubt. And as long as they don't leave the safety of the automobile cabin what harm can it do?

@IWRATS dem busy roads will give the impression we are not on lockdown. Meanwhile the autobahns will be deserted

its hard to guess whether you're fishing or not..

motoring punters can't be trusted to drive responsibly at any time, but in this, our new world, the emergency services do not have the resources to deal with their carnage

@IWRATS, "And as long as they don't leave the safety of the automobile cabin what harm can it do?"

Last year, but do we really want a repeat?

Drivers targeted in Scotland as 18 die in April crashes

Reckless drivers are to be targeted by Police Scotland after 18 people died in collisions in April alone. Motorists who speed, use mobiles or choose not to wear a seatbelt face fines and penalty points in a police campaign to promote road safety. The focus of the campaign will be on inappropriate speeds, which contribute significantly to fatal crashes, the force said.

I see dumbiedykes lost it’s bus service now you may ask Whit bus? But it is a bit of a warren of stairs and hills and nae shops. Possibly quite an elderly population now too.

I have my route through now but used to come a cropper often

I Count finding the training flat the council own in dumbiedylkes for training social workers how to use the SWIFT database as a minor victory.

Not sure what to suggest hear? Borg Mind any ideas?

I'm going to see how fast my family estate car will go up the A1 at about 05h00 tomorrow even though I don't have a family estate and I'm aware of the particulates generated even by the normal operation of an automobile. Stir crazy here man.

gembo - tricky. Dumbiedykes is almost uniquely difficult to serve by bus for several reasons:

    1. No through route.
    2. Walking distance to town.
    3. Surrounded by park/university.
    4. Marginalised community.
    5. Deregulated bus services - even Lothian MUST act as a commercial operator.
    6. Subsidy for socially desirable, but non-commercial, routes is one of the few discretionary local authority budget lines - meaning it is being cut to the bone in the current funding climate.

Ideally, there would be a dial-a-bus type service for the old town that could flex its route to serve the estate when needed. Likely to require a hefty subsidy to run - which simply isn't available at present.

Practical solutions? Give locals a pass to jump on the hundreds of (mainly empty) open top buses that run past the estate and up to town.

A good suggestion. Alas the open top bus market is likely to be much depleted for the foreseeable...

The prime minister’s spokesman is forced to clarify that the 100,000 target is for England only.

Further confirmation of what we all already knew: UK government didn't have any equipment in reserve for emergencies, didn't plan ahead while they still could and now it's too late to do anything about it.

I quite liked this pro (diy) masks page. It's quite upbeat and can-do, reads like a kickstarter, fun.

It's also a no-brainer, I think, so I'm glad to see it building steam in the USA, and in the UK soon, no doubt.

As we hear often enough, health is devolved. All four nations are failing to test enough.

Scottish target by end April as mentioned upthread is 3500 tests a day.

Seemed to be roughly the same number in citybound and Midlothianbound when I was out. Didn't seem to be noticeably busier or quieter than through the week, but plenty of time for that to change.
