    So - she was essential as a CMO, even behind the scenes? (which I would have accepted).

    Oh she wasn't after all?

    Meanwhile The National's big front page splash is the Declaration of Arbroath.

    Nationalism screws you up.

    There's no doubt that our various governments were slow to respond to what was happening in China. That was the result of forty years of poor decisions, the list so long I wouldn't even know where to start. A deep collective idiocy.

    I just hope that the new CMO is as good or better than Ms Calderwood.

    The Guardian was told last week that Johnson was more seriously ill than either he or his officials were prepared to admit, and that he was being seen by doctors who were concerned about his breathing.

    @Rosie - the Declaration of Arbroath.
    It is surely though important internationally though as a precursor text for France and USA (from what I understand)?

    700 years ago and written in Latin to point out to the Pope that Scotland was not a northern possession of England.

    For admin of CV-19 I think NHS England is probably happy that Scotland and the other 'nations of the UK' are handling their share? They either succeed or take their share of the blame.

    @SRD, that fits with reports of domestic cats being susceptible to the virus.

    @IWRATS, if it's the Deputy CMO then he has been working very closely with Calderwood and the rest of the team throughout.

    @LaidBack - yes, of course it's interesting and important and I think we should re-enact exterminating the Picts as soon as we can get back to normal social distancing. However it is weird to have a big splash front page on this topic when something major in unprecedented times has happened in Scotland.

    "For admin of CV-19 I think NHS England is probably happy that Scotland and the other 'nations of the UK' are handling their share?"

    Health is a devolved power. Scotland has to implement health policies as it does with education.

    @Rosie

    The Declaration of Arbroath is a specifically internationalist document as it implicitly and explicitly recognises the authority of the Pope and church over the individual nations of Christendom;

    with Him Whose vice-gerent on earth you are there is neither weighing nor distinction of Jew and Greek, Scotsman or Englishman, you will look with the eyes of a father

    The letter also suggests regional devolution in England;

    since England used once to be enough for seven kings or more

    So it's right smack bang in the middle of the road politics of the Atlantic archipelago we inhabit (I won't use the names of any of the archipelago's nations as that is clearly divisive).

    can we have a separate FL*Gs thread to sit along the H*lmet thread for discussion of the declaration of Arbroath?

    (My take is that the national had been planning that cover forever and wasn't going to change it whatever happened).

    Johnson did not look well when he broadcast his sound bites over video call.

    A poor example to set to the nation - working while ill.

    I confess I find it interesting, at least from twitter evidence, and a bit on here that the Scottish Govt still seem to be traversing this crisis without any scruitiny at all.

    FM hasn't had her judgement questioned (up here at least) over the CMO debacle, and her wish to keep her on. And whilst the Tories are taking a pounding over PPE and tests here and down south, everyone seems to be oblivious to the poor position here, or have forgotton that health is devolved.

    Speaking to BBC Good Morning Scotland, Scottish Conservative leader Jackson Carlaw said that on Sunday morning, he “thought it was possible an apology might be enough”.

    But the Tory leader reconsidered his view following “the revelation that she had actually visited the property twice”, which he branded “explosive”.

    @IWRATS: Covid-19 can only be defeated by adding two extra lanes to the city bypass.

    We are watching that JoE Exotic Tiger King on the Netflix. It is scary. Even the person supposed to be the antidote is the same as them. I can only cope with an episode a night and soon will ask for it to end.

    Two extra lanes on all roads. Starting with the High Street.

    @IWRATS, methinks Mr Briggs would settle for two lanes on all the roads he personally uses...

    I like how the Herald has used Gregor Smith's photo from his Twitter profile. Media scrambling to find out out who the guy is.

    Seems a dependable sort. As long as he doesn't illegally weekend at his but'n'ben should be fine.

    Clumsily sharing an inaccurate meme to try and support a public health message is rather less onerous than deliberately flouting your own rules so you can spend the weekend in your holiday cottage.

    Scots remain crippled by a poverty of expectation, drilled into us from an early age.

    What shall we call the period between the end of Jockdown and the UK of GB&NI's chaotic exit from the European Union in December?
