I was able to order a new recorder from Amazon.

Not sure everyone will see this as a sign that things are getting better.

I checked a few weeks ago. Amazon only had artisanal flour.

Tesco in Airdrie has plenty last week. I got big bag of white and two Hovis Granary.

Airdrie might be hard to justify. Anybody scoring bread or rye flour in Mbra?

    Yes. The fipple flute kind.

I’ve got a Yamaha YRS 302B. I have bother with the very highest notes. I ordered a YRS 402B. Reviews say the top octave is much better and they don’t block as easily.

The YRS-402B is made from plant-derived Ecodear plastic - making this the world's first application of environmentally-friendly plant based material in a musical instrument.

    OK!!

Wood isn't "plant-based" as much as "plant", I suppose?

The remote location and poor weather has presented a significant challenge, however, working to protect the marine environment through the COVID-19 pandemic has created a unique obstacle for the teams to overcome.

I do have a wooden Hohner. You’re supposed to put oil inside them and not play them too much.

I don’t play much anyway as the management doesn’t like it.

@IWRATS, it would seem this is one of the reasons for the flour shortage:

    ---

Rory McKenzie, 35, from Edinburgh, felt a similar emotion after reaching to the back of a shelf for the last remaining bag of flour - only to find it was white rather than the wholemeal flour he wanted.
"I put it back, but then I got worried that someone was going to say I had contaminated it so I ended up putting it back into my basket," he said. "It was quite annoying buying it but it was better than worrying I was going to get someone pulling me up about having touched it."

Still nice though. I play a YRA 302B, and I have bother with the lowest notes as I find it hard to not overblow. Maybe a bassoon is more my kind of instrument.

I’ve got an Aulos tenor. Should have paid extra for the Yamaha as it has a key for the bottom hole. It’s hard to reach convincingly with a pinkie.

I’ve never tried an alto. I started out on piano so I slip into C naturally, I was put off the alto because it’s in F. I suppose I’d just need to relearn the fingering. The management tolerates the tenor a bit better.

I’d managed to dodge the top octave but I got a book of Bach and it goes to the top C in Sleepers, Wake. The book works well on chromatic harmonica too. Management not a fan of that either.

@IWARTS I hear the Polish shop in Gorgie (across Maccas) has got various flours. May be worth checking if you have an Eastern European shop nearby.
I imagine Food Plus Grocery Pewex Delicatessen in Craigmillar may be a worth a shot.
(Unfortunately Polish flour classification system is somewhat more complex than strong/plain/wholemeal but they should be able to assist you).

I also hear that Sainsbbury's are pretty good with flour stock.

@bax: I also hear that Sainsbury's are pretty good with flour stock.

There was zip in the Longstone branch on Tuesday afternoon. A friend who is Sainsbury's vulnerable persons list to get deliveries (the only way you can get a delivery slot with Sainbury's now, AIUI) has succeeded in adding both wholemeal bread flour and self-raising flour to their latest order but it remains to be seen whether any is actually delivered.

Someone upthread reported that a branch of Lidl had flour a few days ago.

It seems to be pretty random which shops get flour, and when. The true soviet era experience.

Our neighbours are on the vulnerable list and assure us that Sainsburys aren't delivering plain flour today.

Tesco didn’t have Allinson’s yeast. I just used some Tesco yeast. It looked a bit finer grained. I’ll see how it worked in 5 hours.

First sourdough pizza is proving as I type. The starter seems to have stabilised. Smells lovely - recommended.

I believe that the time has arrived to introduce an addendum to Betteridge's Law of Headlines.

I propose that any newspaper of online media article which has as its headline a question about Trump's motives for one of his recent actions, decisions or expressed opinions - e.g. "Why has Trump stopped US funding for the WHO?", "Why does Trump think that chloroquine is a cure for COVID-19?" (or, as seen recently on the BBC web site: "Why does President Trump want to mine on the Moon?") - can be adequately summarised with the words: "Because he is a <rule 2>."

@IWRATS I've been substituting atta (chapati flour) for wholemeal flour when I haven't been able to source regular wholemeal (I generally make bread with half wholemeal, half white flour; all wholemeal is a bit presbyterian).

Atta seems strong enough but slightly grainy and likes a bit more water than regular wholemeal. I don't use yeast but "Mother" is quite happy in the resulting dough and the bread rises which is all that matters.

Otherwise my pusher recently hooked me up with 3 Ks of finest Canadian White so I'm content for now

She didn’t insist on a change of t shirt today.

I love the way you've curated your profile as a reasonable, cautious and thoughtful poster for several years leading up to that post. Chapeau. And quite right.

Imagine being him. The simple horror.

Nice one - off out to scour the non-Western food outlets of Craigmillar right now.

The Eco Larder on Morrison Street https://www.theecolarder.com/ seems to do well with having flour. You need to take your own containers for whatever you buy.
