    There is a lot of planning going on in schools today for what happens when (rather than if) the schools close.

    Health expert brands UK's coronavirus response 'pathetic'

    Ministers ‘behaving like 19th-century colonialists playing a five-day game of cricket’, says Prof John Ashton

    I'm with the Prof Ashton on this - we don't have airport temp checks because they "only" detect a third of cases? What? It's all about the ££. Chief govt medical person is saying reassuring things, is under incredible pressure to do so.

    @unhurt - I have the paper towel issue too - the workaround trick I use is to put a clean paper towel (from my personal supply) in my inside jacket pocket immediately after each hand wash routine. Then I have it there for the next time.

    https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/mar/12/coronavirus-most-infections-spread-by-people-yet-to-show-symptoms-scientists

    The majority of coronavirus infections may be spread by people who have recently caught the virus and have not yet begun to show symptoms, scientists have found.

    An analysis of infections in Singapore and Tianjin in China revealed that two-thirds and three-quarters of people respectively appear to have caught it from others who were incubating the virus but still symptom-free.

    This is why I'm isolating as much as possible.

    The headline this morning: “Stock markets tumble as Trump’s Europe travel ban shocks investors”. Truly, he is Midas in reverse.

    So no concerts in Scotland other than smaller clubs/venues with less than 500?
    No AUOB marches - that will cheer 50% of population up.
    Football? Some sides only get a couple of hundred.

    Edit...
    Apparently the FM announced details before the delayed statement from PM. Cue outrage.

    @KirstyStricklan
    All the male commentators who are furious that Nicola Sturgeon has the cheek to update citizens during a crisis and take questions from the press before Boris Johnson does are really showing their a***s.

    so stay at home and self isolate if you have symptoms, but no one doing so will be tested

    fine.. but forget the numbers, the data is a political joke

    So not football then...?

    @BBCSportScot
    There are no plans to postpone football matches as of yet, despite the Scottish government advising gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled.

    Boris claims many things.

    I've got a ticket for John Shuttleworth on Tuesday. Might not get to hear about his Austin Ambassador Y Reg. James Grant at the end of next week and boys are due to play in the concert hall.

    On the other hand I might not have to sit outside three Manilow gigs in June.

    so i'm thinking that our leaders no-plan to avoid providing home testing service will backfire

    after all, this is a nation that has eschewed any sense of community / good citizenship for decades

    where is the individual's sense of responsibility to self isolate going to come from?

    far to easy for punters with mild symptoms to say, i probably don't have it, this is just a normal bug, i'm off out in the car and away down to asda or wherever

    at least with mass-testing people would know one way or another, feel valued as an individual within a collective, with a sense of responsibility to shoulder

    Citymark office on Fountainbridge.

    We’re being split in to two teams and being told to work at home on alternate weeks.

    Exactly. That's the UK of GB&NI's key problem.

    To be fair, this does seem to be at the core of the plan. You cannot expect people to isolate themselves for months and months. Italy will be a useful comparator (for the modellers, both of epidemics and human behaviour).

    I was thinking about this this morning. It's really complex. My mother is my dad's carer and he can be pretty difficult to live with. They're both in their 80s and we try and visit once a month, if only to give Mum a break. If we decide to keep away from them now and then can't visit for months, it's going to be pretty tough on my mum, especially if they're also isolating from their friends locally, not going to church etc. It's actually quite a nuanced decision, so I'm concentrating on hand washing and not shaking hands, and hoping that as we're fairly isolated generally in day to day life, we don't take something over to my parents in a week or so that finishes them off.
