    Douglas Ross, the minister for Scotland, has announced: “I haven’t commented publicly on the situation with Dominic Cummings as I have waited to hear the full details. I welcome the statement to clarify matters, but there remains aspects of the explanation which I have trouble with. As a result I have resigned as a government minister.”

    On social media the BJ fan club is out in force trying to suggest Ian Blackford broke the rules by going home to Skye during lockdown. He did post it on FB though and is available for comment.
    The rest of the timid Tories here are trying to work out what the new dance steps are.
    The funny thing is BJ doesn't care what they do. He was 'minded' to visit Scotland more but as CV19 has been franchised out to 'the four nations' his role is effectively PM of England. That country though has devolved institutions but no devolved government which I think it really needs to have.

    It's 23 days on average between contact and death. The middle of June is going to be a very hard time in England and here too if we don't maintain our discipline.

    From Thursday, if people develop coronavirus symptoms they must book a test immediately and isolate themselves. If the test is positive, they will then hear from a tracer who will ask them about recent contacts in the community. Sturgeon emphasised that people’s data would be secure and only available to NHS Scotland.

    Squads of highly groomed teenage girls wandering about on Craigmillar Hill. Pretty hard to stop teenagers meeting up on a nice summer evening I suppose.

    Did my commute this am to pick up mystery parcel for son at the Dell. What size? Might fit big messenger bag so went clipped in.

    Was better than normal but still unpleasant compared to my recent pre work loops

    Dell was of course closed open mOn-tues, thurs-sat 7am. To 9am

    Lot of roadworks just now which makes sense

    My teenagers are just going out on bikes.

    You couldn't call them highly groomed though. Or girls.

    One of them broke the rh pedal on my S2L-X yesterday. Apparently it just happened. He wasn't doing anything.

    Prestonfield golf course declaring itself 'no longer available for exercise' after the 29th.

    There will of course be no change to anyone's rights under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 on that date. Everything but the greens remains available for reasonable access.

    @IWRATS: Pal of mine who lives near Murrayfield golf club reports "stay off our land from the 29th" type notices there.

    Swanston had a notice up today which seemed a little more polite and less intimidating than how my pal described the Murrayfield one, but I believe it still went against the Outdoor Access Code/Land Reform Act by suggesting that access to the golf course will be largely forbidden in future.

    I think all such should be reported to the council's access officer. (I've asked my pal to send me a photo of the notices at Murrayfield for that purpose.)

    (FWIW Mortonhall didn't seem to have any new notices up today.)

    The course my old man broke his back adding 9 holes to in Renfrewshire posted a more humorous notice - we hope you have enjoyed using the course, please note if you are going to continue walking here you are risking being hit by a golf ball.

    Maybe some people will be considering joining clubs? Many of them are far less fussy now and junior members (the trad route to maintain membership) have thinned out. Maybe they could introduce walking membership??

    Interesting article on the BBC NewsWebsite for Edinburgh. Courses all taking different approaches. Cumbernauld has had people playing football on the course (must be quite flat Dullatur??) SOme saying take your exercise elsewhere others following the law you can access but not cross fairways when play is ongoing. Most worryingly right at the end John Thorpe 54, of Swanston who has had nothing to do for ten weeks is using a Leeft handed players grip whilst playing right handed. Weird

    @ejstubbs

    Mortonhall gave up long ago and erected legally correct signs saying yes you can come in but please don't get in the way of the golf which is fair.

    I had a guy swear at me for running on Braids One but his mates/playing partners wouldn't back him up so he didn't get anywhere.

    The UK of GB&NI now has the highest per capita mortality rate for the virus in the world as measured by reference to excess over the average all-cause death rates in the previous five years.

    Free to read in the FT if you go via Twitter;

    https://twitter.com/fotoole/status/1265898111265902592

    Everyone will project their ideas onto this fact and so will I.

    If you spend forty years dismantling the idea that public service is noble and necessary and making everyone compete for scraps like rats in a sack then you wind up with a very, very fragile country. If on top of that you put wealthy sociopaths in charge of important stuff regardless of their competence or even interest in the stuff in question then the stuff gets very badly done.

    The fact that the UK of GB&NI is the worst performing country in the world is unlikely to even graze the public consciousness. If it does they'll open the pubs.

    @IWRATS: this is consistent with the analysis done by the actuaries at the CMI:

    @Stickman

    Indeed. I have been following the CMI's work. Covid-19 now as deadly for UK civilians as the Luftwaffe from 1939-45.

    Registering deaths in a timely fashion and ONS collating them is perhaps the one thing that GBNI does well. As the FT says, *Numbers may not reflect the current situation due to lags in registration

    Rep of Ire's YTD registered deaths are currently below 5-year trend due to this. Of course, no-one believes this really, including their Govt.

    But you are right, everyone will project their ideas onto this fact

    Access rights are understandably restricted for sports pitches/areas while in use, you can't walk across a football pitch, you should go around.

    Golf courses had to be exempt from this, much to the disgust of Pringle clad 'Big Jocks' everywhere, as they are so big and often crossed by paths. You can't really go around.

    The SOAC is worded to suggest you can 'cross' a golf course while in use but going for a bit of a stravaig is not really on. As with most of the SOAC, this has never been tested in court.

    So do members of the public have the right to walk on golf courses? In short, yes.

    @IWRATS - the usual suspects from the Telegraph/Spectator are choosing to ignore the ONS/CMI and instead are sharing mortality charts produced by an individual asset manager who has no understanding of demographic analysis. He is trying to show that C19 is only as severe as a bad flu season.

    My professional code of conduct prevents me from telling the guy exactly what I think of his analysis, but several of my more expert colleagues have attempted to correct his errors but he has ignored them.

    What is most worrying it that have seen several influential Tory MPs and ex-MEPs referencing this guff in an attempt to shape policy and influence opinion. It is shameful.

    (Apologies for the rant but it’s infuriating and dangerous)

    I saw the Murrayfield golf course signs yesterday. I would describe them as polite and friendly. I didn't take a photo of them.
    The golf course near where my parents live was trying to keep people off with ropes - in spite of having a narrow Right of Way running down the side that no one was going to keep to while leaving a 2m gap for people coming the other way. Normally that course has reasonable signs about Watch Out For Golf Balls.
