    @Bax some (not enough) is, my brother in laws dad, was operated on in my wifes (private) hospital to have a tumour removed. Urgent NHS cases are going to Spire.

    Opening of non urgent services need to start happening though, or it won't be long before non-covid cases start overtaking covid cases. I can understand why loved ones would/will feel pretty p*ssed off when their relatives start dropping because of services not being available.

    It's even worse in the US. Arround 40% of medical staff have been furloughed because the hospitals are half empty.

    it is not helpful for us to refer to the US, not now, not ever

    you should all have realised that by now

    A family member has received life-saving heart surgery during lockdown. The services are certainly there.

    it has to be deemed life-threatening by the initial gatekeepers to get through

    there are so many conditions that the gatekeepers make false negative calls for

    i genuinely cant emphasise enough how arbitrary that actually is in reality

    people are dying because of this

    "my brother in laws dad"

    I only have brothers so it took me a while before I worked out why you were referring to your father-in-law this way.

    @ Bax san you seen David Byrne’s coronavirus style haircut? Quite long anyway - was with the Brooklyn Choir, made me pen the following

    David Byrne, how do I love ye? Let me count the ways
    You look like a big man fae Dumbarton these days

    It suddenly occurred to me on waking that there will come a point very soon when this will be said;

    'Well done to all the survivors. Now is the time to not just acknowledge the huge debt you owe to those who financed the furlough and business support schemes but to begin the painful business of repayment. Her Majesty's Government stands ready to schedule and enforce this debt as our principal patriotic duty.'

    Our mate who is the director of the first care home in France to go into total lockdown with staff and residents has just scored a book deal with Hachette (which is a Big Deal like Penguin).

    Just read the first chapter and it should be interesting. I have not yet dared to tell her that UK of GB&NI care homes are at the centre of the pandemic - I don't think she'd believe me apart from anything else.

    Most photos are of women.

    Wouldn’t surprise me if most beneficiaries of this scheme/new cyclists were female.

    Do they need more bikes? I can point them to several rusty/flat tyred options if they're OK with seizing them.

    @Rob

    The Bike Station is currently taking bikes that are 'close to working condition': two wheels, pedals and handlebars.

    The seizing of apparently abandoned bicycles is a huge and ongoing issue - nobody wants to give the legal say-so just in case and of course TBS does not want to be handling anything that could ever be described as stolen.

    @Bax, those TH outfits look super comfortable. Ideal for the current weather, loose fitting, freedom to move.

    There's a bike in out stairwell that has not moved in the decade and more that I've lived there. It has all its bits... I keep thinking I should start the process of getting it to The Bike Station... suggestions?

    She [The first minister] also asked that people stay local as much as possible – within five miles of their home – avoid crowds at parks and beauty spots across the country, and to go elsewhere if areas are busy. People should still stay at home as much as possible, she added.

    "If too many of us change our behaviour a bit more than these changes are designed to allow, we could see the virus spread quickly again and we will be back to square one."

    It's got to be tried but I fear we'll be back at square one very soon.

    EEN: "Chief Sup Scott also urged people looking to buy bicycles on sites such as Gumtree to watch out for inflated prices, as this could be a sign that the bike has been stolen."

    I always thought that the wretches sold them cheaply to reduce the chances of being caught with them.

    “sold them cheaply”

    Perhaps they’ve realised ‘too cheap to be true’ is too suspicious!
