Soon we wont even be able to resolve our cognitive dissonance by saying cycling is exempt (check those men on strava going for 100 mile cycles in an hour).

In preparation I have taken up skipping.

Day 1 - 20 skips and 10 peppers before the rope snagged
Day 2 (yesterday) 39 skips and watched Malcolm Mclaren’s 8 min version of Double Dutch (knACKERED)

Cuh mon say Eh Bo, Eh Bo EBONETS.

need to get into this skipping malarky, gembo

whats the hampden, do you have a pro setup or strictly diy handle fashioned

@bax it is old school, quite heavy rope, old wooden handles but they do seem to have ball bearings or something that gives a swivel to the rope.

The guy on YouTube had some wild looking kit. Top of the range thin cord and fancy handles.

A bit of rope cut a bit long and wrapped round the wrists will still work.

Quite windy to start today but 52 skips set last night will be hard for me to beat.

I found my rope in the InterSport in York in 1991 which closely resembled the ropes we'd just been introduced to at school for attempting maximal skips per minute. Light, slightly flexible polypropylene braid with plastic tubes around it for weight.

Saw this thread and borrowed my daughter's rope. First try was 37, 2nd try a minute after was 15. Still breathing hard 5 mins later.

Are these numbers for consecutive skips until you need to rest or just until you thwack your feet?

@wingpig, until you catch the rope but I guess you could stop as tired or just showing off if you become super confident. @bill claims could easily achieve over the ton using pink ropes back in the day

OK. Just stopped at sixty on a first wee test to see if there was enough space between the basketball hoop and the pigeon tree. I have decided on an initial arrangement of doing at least one skip per minute of logged-in WFH, preferably not building up a debt of more than 180 so that I'm not sitting still for three hours, not that that's even remotely possible with children all over the place.

    The next hour banked already.

@wingpig provides the correlation... sixty is the bar !

oh lordy that's a mountain to climb.. may have to invoke the covid veteran's handicap

meantime i can cycle 15 miles daily but legs/lungs immediately complain at any effort to jump the rope repeatedly
