Ohh yes, Bishop of Edinburgh, Richard Holloway, waiting patiently whilst Jim dissed an Australian employee using many expletives then turned to the customer and asked What is it you do then.

Has he told you the single eyebrow story?
    Or the

Using the water sprayer and being distracted by a young woman outside the shop and then returned to the customer to discover he had completely soaked him during the distraction

Hmm. Looks MAMIL-/sports-themed unfortunately, that sort of shop are never happy fixing rear punctures on dutch style bikes in my experience - last time it was cheaper to get a taxi out to Hart's than use a close shop. Still, won't make a final judgement until I can go in and ask, it'd be really handy to have a place right on my doorstep for small stuff.

A new bike shop is due to open in Morningside

I had a look in Society Cycles last time I passed that way. It was pretty high end and I didn't feel like I was the demographic they were aiming at.

The ProjektRide guys in Newington seemed pretty down to earth and were helpful with my questions. It might be good for Inverleith to have a new bike shop.

I hadn't realised Bikestation has another outlet other than Causewayside.
The Gorgie one is closer to me and Derek (ex Edin Bike Coop) sorted out a great pannier for a bike for my son £10.

I was able to cycle out on the Roseburn path and on road from Roseburn to just before Chesser on A71. Back the same way but with a pannier fitted.

  13. George From Dalry Bicycle Depot here.
We did indeed have some difficulties on Dalry road - we started off with a sublet and couldn't agree on terms with the very difficult landlord..

We have since moved a little along the road to 6 Caledonian place next to WALLACE's appliance shop.

We'll be going nowhere anytime soon as we've secured a 10 year lease and re-opened in January :)

  14. Wow, the bike station has significantly raised its prices.

Sadly as costs are going up across all markets. It was also prompted when mechanics asked for a pay rise as its not so feasible to live off of 'living wage'

I used Substance for an annual service, and was happy. Turns out I needed new tires, and they gave me a few options in different price ranges. Bike is running nicely now.

I'm not sure how their prices compare with others because I haven't gotten around to comparing receipts.

It is a very tiny space--it was a cafe/deli before, and a fishmongers before that. So they might not cope with larger than "normal" bikes, but they didn't come across as MAMIL snobs.

Bikestation's always been expensive/overpriced for me.
Most of their bikes are well used/refurbed bike-shaped-objects and anything half-decent is either overpriced for what it is or doesn't make it onto the shop floor.

Being able to rent a workshop slot with tools/expertise on-hand is great though.

I would visit bike station more often if it was easier to get there/back by bus!
