I'm convinced the shop units at Lochrin Basin are cursed. Nothing ever lasts there.

That is a shame. Their cafe was great initiative and @Bill's Towpath Talks put it on the map.
I spoke with Luke last year about having a UA for hire.
Operationally it was tough as bikes had to be kept in basement for insurance reasons.Regards
Last year there was so many poor weather days that hit bike trade in general.
Indoors cycling is huge and hits repairs.
Endless storms make family cycling less attractive.

that's a shame. we were there for an edfoc event and had a good experience (unlike when I've tried to go there for actual bike service).

What is it about those shops? seriously cursed.

Maybe when the new housing opens the curse will lift. That tiny setback from the street effect is bonkers.

Signs of life beside KwikFit today. Combined bike and car repair businesses are common in NL and now they're coming here. Fettle sponsored @edfoc.bsky.social last year.

Anyone have contact details for the Biketrax team? A friend had their new bike back in for a some maintenance just before they shut and doesn’t seem to have any way to recover it at the moment.

@tk I will ask if they know what your friend should do.

@bill Thanks for that. Apparently the owners were clearing out the shop yesterday and when he went down today it was all locked up and has left a message with building management in case they come back. Next step is probably the police unfortunately in these circumstances especially as the website is now down.

Shame about biketrax, not sure I ever actually bought anything from them though. I was going to get my Carradice from them but they could never keep stock in and apparently Carradice (were) are difficult to deal with.

On another note the new place at Morningside seems to be have gone already.

    Fettle has opened? Dundee St?

@steveo - it's possible the Morningside shop was just shut (closed Sunday and Monday). It's lack of signs and internal shutters makes it look derelict when shut. Not that I have ever been in, probably because Sunday is the day I am most likely to visit a bike shop.

@bill Not sure we've met but I've had an edi.bike reader get in touch with me trying to recover their bike in a similar situation - can you DM me if you might have advice?

    Some information from said reader:

If anyone else is in the unfortunate situation of currently having a bike in the workshop with Biketrax I would recommend they contact The Insolvency Company and give company name 'AC Cycles'. There is seemingly no way to directly contact Biketrax to figure out what is happening or how to get my bike back! I am still waiting for a call back from The Insolvency Company but fingers crossed they'll be able to help!

The shop has advised that any customers who still have bikes in the workshop should not worry as they are working on solutions to return all stock.

    "working on solutions?"

What, like, turn up with a key at a designated time?

    How hard can it be?

@neddie depends - maybe rent unpaid? So building owner iffy?

I'm assuming administrators are involved. They will be wary of stock being given away and so wanting to check the books before starting to return property, especially if there might be work done that can be charged for.

I’ve just heard that biketrax customers still haven’t had bikes returned. The administrators say they’ve not officially taken control yet and the owners have deleted comments on their instagram saying they’re trying to figure out how to return the bikes. Must be a horrible situation for anyone involved.
