I also notice that reports on reopening Braid Road in both directions and amendments to Comiston Road (to improve public transport connectivity) are to be presented at the September Committee meeting. SfP clearly facing death of a thousand cuts.

    Pathetic

So the principle is ‘local inconvenience matters’.

    SO

How about making Edinburgh just for Edinburgh traffic?

So no commuters from out of the city limits?

(And therefore no Edinburgh drivers leaving Edinburgh??)

The Lanark Road bike lane will be removed - coalition amendment for tomorrow’s TEC:

Going to tandem up it tomorrow. Does make route more attractive to most people I think. Far too early to remove - we've had roadworks that have lasted longer. All people voting on it should cycle it first so they are informed about why it makes sense.

Aside from it being annoying for us, this is surely an incredibly bad idea for the administration?

The front page of the EEN tomorrow is almost certainly going to be “COUNCIL BACKTRACK ON HATED CYCLE LANES” or similar.

Opposition councillors will use this to demand all SfP measures are removed (“You removed this cycle lane that people didn’t like, so why not this one?”).

All of the SfP haters will then use this to take a victory lap against SfP and CEC.

You have got to be kidding me! The only people inconvenienced by the Lanark rd scheme are a few people who like to park in front of their private drives. So we're replacing segregated cycle routes with a scattering of parked cars, no extra space for drivers really, and a giant **** you to local cyclists.

“this is surely an incredibly bad idea for the administration?“

Could well be, depends how ‘smart’ they are being.

Think they need to ‘show we are listening’, and presume know one thinks ALL the measures have been good(?)

Need to also be willing to say ‘we’ve learned which ones have worked/are popular and intend to roll out similar ones in other places’…

    And demand more SG money.

I already messaged SWMBO to say that I want to move away. I can't face sitting in the car for hours at the Gillespie crossroads, and I'm not willing to put up with the pitch blackness and mud on the WoL and Donkey Lane. The chance of them rebuilding any infrastructure on the A70 after taking it out is basically zero.

As Cllr Jon Burke (Hackney) points out:

People care more about their SUVs than their children in this country

I have only used it once or twice but it is one of the better lanes. Taking it out makes no sense as it benefits far more people than it hinders. As others have said the met effect is cars blocking traffic instead of bollards and more cars in the traffic.

    A sad day.

The SWEM facebook page’s mask has slipped of late. Lots of anti-cycling content bubbling to the surface among the concerns over emergency services and disabled users.

The debate about 45% of households was quickly reframed as “why is the council persecuting the 55%.”

These people wont give an inch of road space to cyclists. They frustrate any attempt at debate. They get the political leaders they deserve.

I did see one comment suggesting that if 52% was enough to leave the EU, 55% was enough to prioritise personal vehicles above everyone else!!

@PS (Hopefully, they've removed the option to turn into Eyre Place, as I could see a car waiting to turn right against a flow of traffic would stuff up the junction from the north good and proper.)

Yes, they have taken that out. I'll admit to being slightly alarmed by how quickly motor traffic could back up towards Inverleith Row, as the space where it was double lanes was only about 10 vehicles long?

I'm so angry that we're losing many of these lanes just as summer kicks in and people might start wanting to be outdoors more.

Worth noting this will almost certainly be referred to full council so perhaps time to email all your councillors!

Lanark Road has been a game changer. For the first time my child has been able to cycle along this road.

What could possibly be more important and enabling healthy, safe journeys and encouraging the next generation to use cars less for our environment?

“Worth noting this will almost certainly be referred to full council so perhaps time to email all your councillors!“

Looks like there needs to be a concerted effort to call for a rethink on this.

People like Dave and person in last post who have a direct interest PLUS Spokes and CCEers with knowledge, experience and interests in this - including despair and anger.

(Will probably need a delegation to full council meeting.)

Is this the same Brave Sir Arthur who bravely ran away from the Transport Committee over SfP? Talk about playing both sides...

According to Scott Arthur, no one in his group asked for Lanark Road to be removed. Given the only (?) SNP Cllr for the area David Key supports the scheme, who actually came up with the idea to remove it?!
