    Frank Ross:

The whole point of “pop up” infrastructure is speed of deployment. Officers need to realise this and implement before our roads fill up with more cars than pre lockdown.

It's now or never for cycling. If Edinburgh doesn't lock in the new cyclists in the next week the game's up.

I’ll be more generous and say they have until 11th August. If meaningful stuff hasn’t been done by the time the schools go back, we’re screwed

I'm so frustrated with the lack of progress it's physically painful.
Why is there only pretend? Why do we have to face such a wasted opportunity?

Laziness and incomprehension. All be back to normal soon, innit?

The temporary cycle lanes on Crewe Road South, leading to the Western General, and on and Old Dalkeith Road, the route to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are expected to open next month. The council said they would provide safe routes for key workers and service users, especially as traffic starts to increase again as the lockdown is eased.

City transport convener Lesley Macinnes said the council’s programme would be implemented in sync with the Scottish Government’s four-phase plan for lifting the lockdown.

“For example, as offices and worksites begin to return, we will address arterial routes to support commuters.

Next month? What are they waiting for?

Consultations on these end tomorrow (27th May). I'm hoping when they say "next month", they mean "1st June".

Oh God, where is the consultation?

If this is Edinburgh's response in a public health emergency, no wonder everything takes so long the rest of the time.

I suspect Morningsider knows the answer, but why is it taking so long when other cities set up shop weeks ago? Is it pure, unadulterated bureacracy? Lack of joined-upness between active travel and roads teams? Lack of practice at 'shovel-ready' project management? Or, perhaps, the lack of a comprehensive strategy for active travel on major routes? CEC can't possibly not be aware of the roads that carry the most cycling.

Emailed to stakeholders (community council, local councillors, Spokes, emergency services, perhaps others).

You want to see the plans?

    E-mailed? But of course.

Thanks for the offer - I'll just wait and see what pops up.

SNP council candidate showing that every party has people who don’t want change:

The A8 is a Major Road Frank and a very busy one. Widening the pavement and adding a pop up cycleway will add unnecessary congestion, not to mention increase the potential for accidents, there is ample space for both cyclists and pedestrians.

If widening the pavement will increase congestion wouldn't adding a lane or two reduce congestion? Surely that's the solution?

Found these plans for filtered permeability in Featherhall after seeing a mention on Twitter: https://imgur.com/a/SyXVu7b

There were quite a few complaints but it was Facebook after all.

@Frenchy I'd be quite interested to see the plans.

Funding now up to £30m with immediate effect. Michael Matheson statement in Parliament.

CEC needs to pull its finger out.

Perhaps that's what the delay is/was, considering plenty of councils have submitted bids but nothing has appeared.

Do not understand Sustrans' map of Edinburgh's proposed interventions.

It's not a map of proposed interventions, it's a map of actual interventions?

I understand it, but I'm underwhelmed. In fact my whelm factor is tending to zero.

CEC gets £5m from Spaces for People (which would've been half the previous funding) https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/12868/5m-funding-for-edinburgh-s-ambitious-active-travel-plans

    Some updates:

The partial closure of Stanley Street and Hope Lane between Stanley Street and Christian Grove to provide a low-traffic corridor for people to walk and cycle and access nearby green spaces like Figgate Park for exercise, from 2 June.

The closure of Warriston Road to through traffic to provide a wide pedestrian and cyclist-friendly space leading to access to the North Edinburgh path Network, from 2 June. Access to the allotment and Warriston Crematorium will be maintained via Ferry Road.

From this week, we will also be prioritising pedestrians at 150 junctions by removing the need to press the button to call the green man during the daytime and evening. Those with visual impairments will be able to continue using crossings as before.

...an advisory cycle lane on Crewe Road South, between the Orchard Brae roundabout and Crewe Toll roundabout.

Now they are just spoiling us!

@Stickman - to be fair, there will also be the prize of a segregated cycle lane on Old Dalkeith Road for all our lovely new cyclists - who I am sure are only too happy to first pass through the Cameron Toll roundabouts.

I do not get it. The feasibility of any route is determined by its worst section. If you can reach the beginning of any of these facilities by definition you don't need them.

It's like in the Olden Times when I would fight down the Bridges and Picardy Place and then there would be the Toytown lanes on Leith Walk but I only ever saw them out of the corner of my hyper-vigilant eye because I was doing 25mph down the carriageway not pootling round the back of bus-stops.

Per @IWRATS' maths, £5m is enough to buy enough traffic cones to make 2000km of temporary bike lanes.

I can only conclude they're putting a pop up bike lane on every single road.

If they made Figgate park safely accessible from the Duddingston end as well, that would be even better

pass through the Cameron Toll roundabouts

black cab driver ran me right off the road here once, after my objection to being cut up earlier at pace down minto street

the coward then went round the roundabout and parked over in the layby next to two loitering cabs

if i wasn't urgently on the way to little france RIE to check on my wife in a hospital bed, i would have sparked the boy out, no question
