    Indeed, that seems pretty reasonable.

Stickman - I think the key point in the motion is:

As such we should not close these routes to vehicular traffic

The Tories are asking for national speed limits on arterial routes to be lowered, as an alternative to closing "rural roads". All par for the course - simply ensuring that there are no "Places for people" created, gussied up as concern for farmers and communities.

All it requires is "no entry (except for access)" or "no motor vehicles (except for access)". Both of these preserve the farm access whilst reducing the vehicular traffic.

I know folk won't understand what "access" will mean, but if the alternative is Tory style no restriction, then I'll take an imperfect restriction!

NEPN closed at South Fort Street. With no temporary measures on either Ferry Road or Bonnington Road, that will cut off a lot of people from the NEPN. Pretty amazing this is happening while trying to get more people walking/cycling.

I believe it is for bridge repairs. If it is so urgent, couldn't they close the bridge to cars while a safe alternative is provided?

Weber is a proper menace. All Cook's knee-jerk bile but some brains too.

Oh I wish it was amazing. Alas it is just normal in these parts...

Resurfacing starting on The Mound 30/06 for two weeks. Would assume any measures will follow on from then.

Resurfacing is finished on Forrest Road with new DYls (and a roughly 0% compliance rate) - supposedly segregation is going in soon.

Grief - the state of collapse for that tram track - the rails won't bring you down but the pavement will

having grown up on a farm road in Yorkshire with these signs on, they really, really, really don't work very well.

The council’s decision to scrap the proposals marks a significant blow to Green councillors, cycle lobbies and environmentalists, who were all highly enthusiastic about them.

However, many small businesses stood staunchly against the ban which they maintained threatened their ability to trade effectively.

    Pathetic.

    Coronavirus

    Political leadership

    Blah blah

(Partly) result of 3 months of not enough action.

This is completely incorrect and does not reflect ANY of our current thinking. I understand it is being taken down after our understandable anger. So much work good work undermined

    Infuriating.

Still half an hour till the consultation actually closes...

EDIT: The original story was infuriating, not Cllr Macinnes' response.

    BREAKING- my patience.
This story is completely false. Why did you not check facts with @Edinburgh_CC before publishing? Can you please retract & apologise @EuanMc

    Seems so:

It happens when journalists are fed a line by those who oppose what we are trying to achieve (safe places and support for businesses reopening in midst of a pandemic)and don’t bother to check with the Council administration. Someone somewhere is rubbing their hands in glee, sadly

I wonder who could possibly have done that. It's just a real mystery. Could be anyone.

    Lesley Macinnes:

To say that I am furious with the @edinburghpaper at the moment is an understatement. We have officers working round the clock to deliver v necessary safe distancing changes to our city. All that effort undermined by thoughtless publication of a false article

As a glimmer of hope, the Maybury Rd crossing is coming along nicely.

Noticed two new schemes up - pedestrianisation of Cockburn St + Victoria St with access 06:30-10:30. Full closure of the section of the High St between Cockburn St and North Bridge.

@Hankchief, that does read like a list of places with enough space to feel safe already doesn't it. One of them already has a shared use path, another already exists but could be improved by tarmac, one is an exceptionaly wide cul-de-sac. That leaves Kirkliston to Winchburgh. Which is easy to build without taking space from cars.
