Leith Walk's a mess. I got where I was going but why does it have to be so chaotic and half-bottomed?

Who is Hayley Matthews she’s pretend8 g to wonder if concrete blocks for segregation are a bad thing for cyclists.? In the chip wrapper.

I assume Cllrs Cook and Webber will be along shortly to upbraid the author for criticising road resurfacing - their keynote transport policy.

Went for a spontaneous ride up Comiston Road this evening with mini-Greenroofer (aged 15) on the back of the cargo bike. Turning right from Comiston Drive onto Greenbank Terrace was, as @Morningsider says above, 'interesting' even at 1900 on a Sunday (although this was mainly because of the two fire engines parked at Margiotta).

Anyway the point of this post was to mention new the bike lanes up Comiston Road. They are nice and wide, and would actually be quite good if they didn't have @*&^! cars parked in them most of the way up, which of course immediately renders them utterly pointless.

@Greenroofer - yes, went up Comiston Road to investigate the new lanes a few days ago. There were 20 vehicles parked in the southbound lane mid-afternoon. The only sections that were free of parked cars were those with double yellow lines.

Oh dear are the Comiston Road lanes actually finished? I thought the original plans had physical segregation in them, with parking 'on top'. Having seen them yesterday there are indeed mostly pointless at the moment but I thought I was witnessing a transitional phase.

@jonty - Yes, kerbs etc. definitely in the plans.

Finally, I don’t object to the council road goal – just how badly it’s being done

Was running last night and found all the Old Dalkeith Road magic wands in the undergrowth.

Someone had systematically plucked them and chucked them over the wall.

IWRATS have you reported that to someone? That's deliberate vandalism.

    @fimm

Not yet, no. But you are correct I should and I will.

    It's just so tiresome.

Glue on the tops of them when they go back. I'd like to see pictures of an irate wingnut motorist unable to get back into their car and drive away with a wand stuck to each hand.

    “That's deliberate vandalism“

Why not just escalate the language and call it terrorism??

Whatever the ‘motivation’, it’s potentially life threatening and certainly intimidating.

I picked up about 5 or 6 wands and replaced them in their holders along George IV Br and Forrest Rd today.

Satisfyingly, I managed to put one back in the divider between bike and walking lane, semi blocking in a Taxi parked in the lanes...

I hope I don't end up with a wand stuck to my hands

It will be smart glue. Only sticks to taxi drivers.

Iwrats if you invent something that'll stick to taxi drivers there is probably a Nobel prize in your future.

Re the cones along Corstorphine - are you seriously meant to cycle in them?! If so they are a waste of effort as they only last very short distances and some have a road sign dumped in them.

The ones at Corstorphine are extensions of the pavements, not cycle lanes.
