    This is odd -

We can't solve Edinburgh's problems without improving public transport.

New mandatory (continuous white line) cycle lanes have appeared on Silverknowes Parkway and it appears that it will no longer be a dual carriageway. Does anyone know whether wands will be fitted? Currently many cars are driving in the mandatory cycle lanes and there is a repositioned bus stop which forces buses to drive into the mandatory cycle lane to get to the stop.

So this is about floating bus stops??

Let's not make Edinburgh's transportation future a battle between bus users and cyclists. I want to see more people cycle, but increasing public transport use is crucial.

Forgot to post at the time, but in Comiston Road / Pentland Terrace last week in the area of the Disabled Parking space I spotted a van being driven South, half on the pavement and half on the Northbound Mandatory cycle lane, behind the wands!!!

    Words honestly failed me!

@hankchief Ah, forgot about the lack of right turn onto Maybury Road. Though you wonder how many would actually be going north versus south from those cul-de-sacs.

@Rob funny you mention an out of area opinion - I noticed one of the anti-LTN accounts has said they don't live there either: https://twitter.com/east_craigs/status/1299358397993816067

Suppose any suggested changes to the position of the bus gate will probably be rejected by those who don't think it's a rat run in the first place.

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/18727809.lib-dem-health-spokesman-sparks-police-concerns-1-000-gather-public-meeting/

Ms Macinnes was asked about the incident at today’s full council meeting.

She said that Mr Cole-Hamilton “gave me in writing a promise that was an open-air meeting with a maximum attendance of 200 people”.

She said: “He had got clearance for this from Jason Leitch, the national clinical director.

“I agreed to attend that because I considered it very important to be able to listen to the concerns that were emerging out of that area for residents. This was one means of doing so.”

Ms Macinnes added: “The organisation of that meeting and the blanketing of leaflets produced a crowd of, in my estimation, around 600. The organisers then went on later on to crow about the fact that they thought there had been 1,000 people there.

“That broke every bit of guidance that had been given to them by the Scottish Government and that they had agreed to.”

Apparently this is about to happen (at Sciennes Primary) -

Sciennes Road – close road to all traffic, except waste vehicles and emergency services, whilst maintaining access for cyclists through barrier.

I don't think that one's been approved yet, but hopefully it will be soon.

Markings for a parking bay now in place on Comiston Road northbound, north of Caiystane Crescent. It all seems to be getting done in a rather piecemeal fashion.

Also, what looks like it's going to be another strange 'ghost island' like the one near Buckstone Gardens. Still no idea what those are supposed to achieve.

@ejstubbs - Assuming it's the same thing - my only thoughts about the hashings southbound where the physical island is would be to make the road apparently narrower to slow traffic down - whether this is the actual case or not, I don't know. I do know that such a technique is used at Newbridge with a physical build out to narrow the road and hence reduce speeds / focus attention....

I see there's an opinion piece on the EEN website and there's reference to a 40 limit - driving without due care and attention anyone? The appropriate speed limit signs for 30 are in place.....

New bridge build out is quite someth8ng and has been there a while. As has the kilometre of segregated cycle path that links Edinburgh to the old Glenmorangie plant.

I will take a punt both steps were introduced around about the same time as The NEPN

If you do go that way then turn right after a mile and a half you reach Niddrie Castle. Which was rebuilt using YTS scheme but is a house. Cunning.

Also canal towpath appears and a bit further On at Wynchie the big pink jumbo jet nose cone sticking out the garage.

    All true.

    1. Selective nonsense from
    @agcolehamilton
. 1. I did not complain to PS, they contacted senior CEC officers to express concerns 2. You wrote tome confirming that Nat Clinical Director was allowing max 200 attendance 3. I honoured my commitment to listen despite grave ....

    2. ...misgivings when I saw size of the crowd, given pandemic conditions 3. I stayed behind to talk/listen to people long after you left the field 4. currently working on proposal changes w/officers in response to those very real concerns. Time to reflect on your combative tone.

It was the YOP that burnt my secondary school to the ground while stripping paint.

    From link -

He gave the example of measures on Comiston Road The community councils and all the councillors from Morningside and Fairmilehead had met and agreed there should be a meeting of residents and a road safety audit before the scheme started. “That wasn’t about wrecking it, it was about allowing local residents to say how they thought it should be improved.” But a few days later the project went ahead without waiting and it led to the row over the disabled parking bay in the middle of the road.

Cllr Arthur said he knew the couple they bay was for. “I felt ashamed of the way they had been treated, they are good people.”

So we met to discuss the draft East Craigs LTN report today (along with other Oct TEC items) - we had a very constructive cross-party discussion about what information needs to be in the report. Cross party apart from the Lib-Dems... none of them attended.

I noticed the other day that the southbound lane gets 'squeezed' rather badly as it passes the Braid Hills Road junction.

But in general, I am also 100% in favour.

I still think they should have white lines to mark the outer edges of the parking bays, though. It's obvious what they are when they've got cars parked in them, but the ones with the disabled bay and the city car club bay do look a bit daft when there are no other cars (though it shouldn't be beyond the wit of man to understand what you're supposed to do with them i.e. park in them not drive in them).

Extended pavement sections on Morningside Road have now been matched with solid white lines. Not sure what this achieves in practical terms but it does look more "solid".

Why are only some, and not all, the zigzag ped crossing sections not part of the extended pavement? How could they be anything else?

Mandatory cycle lanes approaching the Church hill junction in both directions
(May have been there a while but I have only just spotted)

Great news for Sciennes, My first thought was what about Jimmy the lollipop man.

My second thought was that it's over 3 decades since he used to help us across that road on our way to school.

    “3 decades“

Pretty much the length of time there have been discussions about closing the road...

If the Canaan Lane road closure is anything to by they might still need a lollipop man.

Two lorries parked up at the end of the lane this morning outside the pub. Car getting past by stradling the bike lane and the pavement.

I did challenge one of the fruit/veg vans that looked like it was cutting through Canaan Lane last week as I'd seen the same van cutting through several times. He said he was delivering to the Canny Man's and the police had stopped him last week and said it was acceptable. I gave him a "fair enough" (it may well be) and suggested that if could change his schedule to deliver 20 minutes later every day he'd avoid the conflict at the school. He didn't seem keen!

Daisy Narayanan, director of urbanism at active travel charity Sustrans, points out that efforts to make walking and cycling in cities more attractive are not new.

But the trend has accelerated sharply with almost 900 new schemes to improve walking and cycling implemented across the UK since May.

    ...

A Guardian analysis of Transport for London consultations on cycle schemes before the pandemic revealed they were often withdrawn or altered following consistent objections from Conservative politicians, taxi drivers’ organisations and residents’ associations in wealthy areas.
