The mixture of shameless self-promotion with a childish refusal to take responsibility for the activities of the council of which he is a member of the ruling group is galling.

Support stuff, persuade people, resign even. But petulant whining? Yuk.

dean of fac caught the bug saying no Thanks. Fluked his council seat on third count. Appears to be keen to stay elected? Or just very individual type of person?

Wishes to set up a hill fort on Braid Hill and protect the people of Fairmilehead and Buckstone as their warlord.

Cuts a rather pathetic figure. Yes, I agree politicians should try and bring as many people along with them as they can - but the importance of bold political leadership in the development of cycling infrastructure is very well recognised in research.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any studies into the effectiveness of whining from the sidelines as a means of encouraging modal shift. Possibly something that an academic likely to have more time on their hands in the near future could run with.

@IWRATS: Or maybe on Galachlaw, following in the footsteps of a certain Mr Cromwell.

(I have to say that in my few visits to that area I have managed to locate neither the cairn marked on the OS map, nor the "rectangular rampart" reported elsewhere.)

Is this the van that's often parked at The Hermitage entrance or another one? Pretty shocking behaviour. https://twitter.com/MorvL/status/1326812816305762309

In just 6 months @Edinburgh_CC devised incredible 80 #SchoolStreets #SfP projects, most now in place; 50 more soon

    No, not that van.

The van that's normally parked there is a newer one, painted in metallic blue, with passenger seats and windows all round

Tories playing their usual card at Transport Committee of referring the SfP measures to full council in order to delay them.

I admit to shouting at the screen when I saw that, Stickman! Sounds like there'll be a rush to get the papers ready by tomorrow for full council meeting next week, otherwise it'd be 5 weeks away. Really not acceptable to keep kicking it into the long grass out of spite.

Surely there are some Conservative voters in favour of road/child safety??

Never had a reason to cross that field before and now I have one. Galachlaw, eh? Who knew?

    @chdot:

If there are then the Tories aren’t trying to appeal to them:

Heather Stronach was killed on her bike 9 days ago at the Harry Lauder Junction less than half a mile from my front door.

This dropped through the door tonight.

An “expensive new cycle lane” might just have saved her life.

    Potholes.

There are. Their favoured means of delivery is a 4x4 with child seats.

Pavements are things you cross for them. Only losers use them longitudinally.

... and the Tories have pulled that trick of referral to full council on East Craigs as well.

A few months ago, Conservative councillors adamantly told me that the Conservatives are not responsible for delaying active travel projects. They pointed to the list of approved projects, many of which admittedly do have long delays which are nothing to do with the Conservatives. I thought, but don't think I said at the time, that they were missing my point - that Conservatives are actively delaying projects prior to approval.

Might bang my head against a wall again later.

It's incredibly frustrating. Why bother having committees vote on anything in the first place?

Iain Whyte justified it by saying Labour used to do the same years ago when they were in opposition.

...and to round things off, Cllr Webber nodded along enthusiastically when Cllr Macinnes said that we need to make the roads safer for the most vulnerable road users whilst she was putting forward a motion responding to Heather Stronach’s death.

    What a shower they are.

Does it make any difference for East Craigs? The trial is still in place, whether it's decided to keep it in now or sometime in the future.

This is what previous (now deleted) post was meant to say.

@IWRATS: Never had a reason to cross that field before

It's not a field now, though I imagine it would have been in Olly's time. These days it's a rather scrubby bit of woodland, north of the new development on the site of the old Princess Margaret Rose Hospital. Access to the alleged site of the cairn is easiest from Buckstone Crook, off Buckstone Circle, otherwise you can get in to the area by following the track that runs roughly parallel to Mounthooly Loan (aka the Frogston Park'n'Ride - at least it's treated that way) off King Malcolm Close, then bearing left along the northern boundary of the Princess Margaret Rose site. Some bushwhacking may be required.

Until a few years ago you used to be able to get up on to the Galachlaw from the Prices Margaret Rose site itself, by a rather impressive sloping switchback path. However, the residents' management committee got their factors to close it off on the grounds that, as far as I can tell from their minutes, random people had had the temerity to actually use it. (I suspect that access might have been a condition of the original grant of planning permission for the development, which would make the legality of that action somewhat dubious. However, I haven't been able to confirm that. It irks me nonetheless.)

@gembo: Given the state of the ground now, I doubt there will be any evidence remaining of the Galachlaw encampment ;) Not like the still very much extant hut bases in the field to the east of Mounthooly Loan, alongside the track that takes you towards Mortonhall House and the Klondyke garden centre. Those are the remnants of a WWII army camp and later PoW camp.

    @ejstubbs

Sorry man. I failed to post what was in my head. A regular running route of mine is separated from the site by this field. You couldn't know that of course. My OP is gibberish.

@LivingStreetsEd has clearly become anti cycling on Twitter. Is this reflective of the whole organisation or is it simply one individual with control of the account? Just asking?

Completely untrue. We're simply fighting for walking to get the attention (and ££) it deserves, supposedly recognised as a priority by everyone - but repeatedly ignored in practice.

And we continue our long standing collaboration with cycle groups (esp @SpokesLothian) on big ticket issues from speed limits to Picardy Place to trams...

    Whole thread -
