Yes, as algo says, one angry resident (who already lives in a cul-de-sac) is upset that others also want to enjoy the benefits of a cul-de-sac and is given 50% of the column space, in the name of of "balance".

Meanwhile, with 4 parent councils, representing ~2400 pupils and their carers, along with LS and all who they represent, all supporting the scheme are given the remaining 50% of the column.

    Balance? No.

Fun and games at the Council today as the Council used procedures to curtail further discussion on SfP and go straight to a vote. Tories outraged, despite them using similar tactics last week.

    Sauce, goose, gander.

How long before the Tories/anti-LTN crew argue that the decision of the democratically elected administration, taken following a vote is "undemocratic"?

    They are doing it already.

New tactic here - SNP/Admin blocking debate on the very controversial Spaces For People - democratic outrage! They refuse to listen to the people of the city and press on with their tunnel visioned schemes

@algo - the Corstorphine Evil Cycle Mafia will ensure that does not happen.

My God that is sinister - are people going to get together to vote in some sort of way collectively which means she won't win? Can nothing be done about this?

Iain Whyte currently ranting about independence and a “one party state” in the discussion about East Craigs.

An SNP/Labour coalition represent a one party state!? Certainly a bold argument.

    Certainly a bold argument.

Especially when made by an elected representative of a different party.

A few notes here - at least (from my perspective) slightly more balance...

Thanks Algo, that's a good, thorough article. It's v much 2 steps forward, one step back, when you read about all the adjustments. The uphill Broughton St cycle lane sounds great though. Interested to see the results of the Greenbank to Meadows bit too.

    Yeah good TER piece.

Nobody’s talking about the benefits of these schemes. I hope that it will be understood that the motivation of the coalition in undertaking this work is not to cause concern in communities or upset but to deliver positive benefits at a time of immense constraints and concern about infection rates.”

When introducing the initial £10 million funding for Spaces for People in the Scottish Parliament on 28 April 2020, the Transport Convener, Michael Matheson, said: “The package consists of 100 per cent funding for local authorities to put in place temporary measures, such as pop-up cycle lanes and wider walkways, through a new spaces for people fund of £10 million that will be administered by Sustrans; guidance to support local authorities on the use of existing legislation that gives them powers to quickly implement temporary road reallocation measures; and access to a range of advice and support from Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government on topics including construction, public health, equalities and communications.

“I very much hope that local authorities will come forward with bold, ambitious plans to implement temporary active travel measures, following the example of cities, towns and places around the world.”

From the link, on Lanark Road

The objectors also say that this will create congestion by reducing the carriageway to a single lane.

A good chunk of Lanark Road is already "reduced to a single lane" by parked cars.

Noticed another new shop is about to open on Morningside Road (a Scottish deli). That's two in the last few weeks - three is you count the new Margiotta at the bottom of Comiston Road. How can this be?

Cycled the wands today from Forrest road to royal mile. Across the high street I could see two flat bed trucks Parked in basically The middle of the road. Until that point they were good.

I dismounted and pushed over towards St GIles.

Cyclist in front was allowed to pull out into middle lane by the bus driver.

Robert Aldridge showing a pretty nasty side today.

He did. It won’t arrest his party’s slide toward irrelevance though.

I was a solid lib dem voter for the longest time. Somehow they've become a really negative influence, sort of nasty tory-esque NIMBY lite. I can't imagine going back to them.

It's like their policy positions have been squeezed by the other parties and so they aren't really the party of anything. If you want obstruction you've got the Tories, if you want progress you've got green/SNP.

Suspect the LibDems in Ed haven’t recovered from when they were running the Council - notably when the tram line construction was at peak shambles - remember ’on time, on budget’.

Politicians couldn’t cope with ongoing lies and truth fractions.

High point, of course was Gordon Mackenzie increasing percentage of transport budget spent on cycling.

Don’t see any way back for LDs any time soon.

LDs should either get serious about strongly advocating a ‘better version of devolution’ or even backing Independence.

Otherwise there’s not much point in trying to maintain a line of ‘well we are not Tory or Labour’.

I have a smidgen of sympathy for the Lib Dems. Their party has destroyed itself by accepting Brexit and now they are furious and pointless.

But that attack on Cllr Macinnes is way over the top.
