East Craigs: "LTN proposal not taken forward"
First I've heard that.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
East Craigs: "LTN proposal not taken forward"
First I've heard that.
“As we’ve been led to believe, this will resolve alll congestion issues in the south of Edinburgh.”
That’s not true...
No no.
‘It will return traffic volume past Morningside Primary to what it was in first lockdown.’
JUST HOPE CEC does comprehensive counting before and after!
Cllr Webber is very concerned about road safety and has proposed an awareness campaign, including hi-viz and helmets.
https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieIssueDetails.aspx?IId=15502&PlanId=0&Opt=3#AI22107
“ Committee therefore requests a report in one cycle on the feasibility of a campaign to ensure cyclists get the maximum benefit from these measures whilst further enhancing the safety of all road users.
Committee agrees that the campaign should be funded from the Spaces for People funds.
...
• Recommendations for safety and visibility – e.g. use of appropriate lighting, high visibility clothing and helmets“
No specific measures addressing people driving vehicles, funnily enough.
Clever Council - East Craigs LTN is cancelled as a Spaces for People project, which is coronavirus related. However, it magically reappears as a Spaces for Everyone project, non-coronavirus related. Looks like an Experimental TRO will be used (same 18 month lifetime, although can be extended).
Bye, bye legal challenge - the grounds for which have disappeared as the project now has nothing to do with social distancing.
Ho ho!
@Stickman: the council have confirmed work is starting next week
Thanks, good to know.
Braid Road to reopen one-way southbound
<rule 2>
Any justification offered? I can see at least one downside in allowing traffic in that direction as it will be passing along the side of the road closest to the Hermitage gate & cafe (unless they put some SfP wands in). But I suppose that having it open southbound, and access to the mini roundabout via Braidburn Terrace eastbound means that the northern bit of Braid Road can once more fulfil its destiny as a Morningside Clock to Greenbank rat-run avoiding Comiston Road...
It's also extremely unhelpful for the Greenbank-Meadows Safer Route to School, unless they re-instate the modal filters originally planned for that section of Braid Road.
Council also looking at consulting on making some schemes permanent.
Any justification offered?
Lothian Buses say congestion is slowing them down.
Council also looking at consulting on making some schemes permanent.
Conservative councillors reacting as expected, of course.
But can you imagine what they'd say if the administration didn't consider/consult on making these these schemes permanent?"
"You spent £5 million pounds, not to mention £400 thousand on consultants, and you just ripped it out afterwards without even checking that people liked it? Typical incompetent lefties.
@Frenchy: exactly.
I’m also hoping at some point people might realise that their constant cries of “crippling the city” haven’t come to pass.
Lothian Buses deflecting methinks. There buses are early t(see days as the6 contain No People mostly.
@ejstubbs: the report at https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s30798/Item%207.1%20-%20Spaces%20for%20People%20Update%20Jan%202021.pdf does say "In addition, traffic calming measures should be considered in the Midmar area to manage through traffic speeds." but no further details yet. They're also planning on introducing the Quiet Route before the end of January, in advance of Braid Road reopening. I fear it's going to end up being the worst of both worlds.
“I fear it's going to end up being the worst of both worlds.”
Important that they have comprehensive traffic data ‘before and after’.
Presume someone here will be able to ask what is planned(?)
@pringlis Where did you get the end of January date from, for implementing the Greenbank Meadows QR?
That’s quite soon...
@neddie - it's in the table on p17 in their post.
"Installation planned late January 2021"
The line above in the table says that Mayfield Road had cycle segregation installed in November/December though, so I wouldn't fully trust it.
What’s this about?
That's the funniest road marking I've ever seen. Low bar but still, nice one.
Is it still like that?
Done elsewhere too?
Will drivers not try to park inside the cycle lane?
At first sight it looks like parking bays. However then I realised that the little yellow quote marks are what they put on footways next to double yellows. So effectively this lane is part of the footway?
@crowriver BUT a will drivers realise this? Being keen to park where they l8ke and angry when fined etc?
That makes no sense - the parking restrictions that are indicated by double yellow lines extend across the whole of the road.
Full of good stuff!
“
“My other concern is the council have hardly got a record of significant consultation responses from anything other than their normal, preferred, self-selected consultees.
“
@gembo, no idea but it would be fun to see them try it on then get a ticket?
Commiston Road lanes had been cleared of snow but were full of sheet ice. Not advised.
That streetview image is from Ferry Road before the segregation went in. Idea presumably being to make the restrictions clearer and try to delineate the cycle lane better. I think it has enforcement issues so everything was against the kerb from then on.
“
while it’s a great idea to make walking and cycling easier, this should not come at the expense of motorists.
“
Of course not, that’s the settled order.
“
This is the one culture war that the Tories have so far been on the wrong side of.
“
Must have missed that...
I got as far as "cynically exploiting a human tragedy" and had to stop reading for fear pitching my computer through the window in rage. It's almost ironic that the author of the article should accuse others of cynical exploitation, but in the end it's just bigoted resistance to change attempting to hide behind clever-sounding rhetoric.
Not reading it then sounds very Weberian. but it is my assertion that at least in Edinburgh Too many people have too many cars. This has to stop if we are to have a planet for the little children
