Always nice to know that gender equality is once again something that can wait till the real issues have been dealt with. Just be patient ladies, your day will come. When nothing important is happening.

That is a very interesting picture of a bit of the candidate’s face. The eyes mostly and nose but no mouth
Then an attempt to whip up interest in why Iain Whyte has too much variety in his chromosomes.

“She has strong views” - what is that code for?
Posted 4 years ago # -
I would find it fairly strange if anyone who went into party politics didn't have strong views?

She had a piece in the Scotsman in Jul6 2020 about the city centre but it was anodyne.

She's a cyclist?

@SRD if so, she kept that well hidden In The piece about commuting into The edinburgh in the Scotsman 2020. She is a councillor for the area Old Town, New Town, Dalry, Dumbiedykes.
Another article this time by Jo Mowat on spaces for people, she seems lukewarmly against. Sept EEN. Then a council bashing one also in EEN. They want my email to let me read them in full. Something about council interested in Independence not bins.
Identifies as a relatively recent buggy pusher when stood for election in 2007

Edinburgh Central is the Gates of Vienna.

@IWRATS, if that's so then who are the Ottoman Janissaries, and who the defenders?

I wish I knew.

In the SNP's National Executive Committee elections Chris Hanlon has replaced Alyn Smith MP as Policy Development Convener.
These two gentlemen are on very different wings of that party and I very much doubt they are on speaking terms. The effect on the 2021 manifesto is likely to be large.

Tories in Edinburgh Central have chosen city councillor Scott Douglas as their candidate to succeed Ruth Davidson at next year's Scottish Parliament elections.
Cllr Douglas has represented Corstorphine/Murrayfield on the city council since 2017.
He went to Edinburgh Academy, graduated with a politics degree from Edinburgh University in 2010. He worked for the Conservative Party for most of the past decade as press office, social media manager and head of broadcast and online media, apart from two years as communications co-ordinator with a legal firm, but is now head of PR and public affairs at Fife College.
Because what Scotland needs is another career party PR hack elected to Holyrood.

Cllr Mowat's "very strong views" clearly too much for local Tories.
Cllr Douglas sounds like the poor man's David Cameron...

@gembo my sense is that she is aware of her constituency and unlikely to make them unhappy, but we have had very sensible conversations about cycling infrastructure. I don't know about now, but some years back she talked about cycling to school with her child, and her partner also cycling to work.

hmmm...so shortlist had two men and one woman, and the woman was eliminated first? interesting. i suppose we'd need to know people in the party to know what the real story is.

To be fair the Tories will need someone glossy with no shame at all to punt their stuff next year.
Posted 4 years ago # -
i'm thinking of other adjectives that begin with g rather than 'glossy'.

Grungy!

Someone.....German? Like Prince Charles? Radical. Think he may be eligible for Holyrood too.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Fife College’s loss, Edinburgh’s gain, oh wait. As you were.
It does seem to be a prize this constituency. JC was kiboshed by the Nats too.

@gembo
If someone did something risky on the understanding that someone they knew would get the candidacy from a third person but the candidacy was actually decided by the branch members then that third someone would have to get someone to invent new rules to prevent yet another someone being nominated.
Is that it?

Imagine engineering a situation where a standard bearer of your party faction could beat Ruth Davidson (of Ruth Davidson party fame) - only for Ruth to benched in the House of Lords. Gah - just a boring old constituency and an identikit Tory new boy to beat.

@iwrats, yes I think I know what you mean

Yes all the Ruth Router/Davidson Destroyer merchandise will have to be shredded as she has gone into hyperspace and can only now be detected on television screens.
