I see George Galloway has got a twin party called @Greens4unity with a similar roundel.
Idea of this is to split vote with apparently putting environment before self governance of Scotland.
In other news... UK is going to increase number of warheads for Trident... weaponary outlawed by UN. New USGov have been briefed in about political situation here. UK nukes are in effect proxy US weapons (cannot be used independently).

"(cannot be used independently)"
Not true.
https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-america-doesnt-control-britains-nuclear-weapons/
What is true is that it is not an 'independant' system in that the UK does not produce it, so if the UK were to fall out with the US, the UK might not be able to procure upgrades etc, but it does not require US to pull the trigger.
What does begger beleif is that we'll spend all that money on hypothetical weapons systems, and fancy aircraft carriers that we can't afford planes for (those can't be used without US aircraft at the moment), but wont give the troops on the ground the equipment that they need. The UK at the moment could not currently defend it's self adequately if it had to:

Yes
But
How do they work against cyberattacks, ad hoc terrorist groups and Climate Change?

The above is v good, but where is this new UK govt hub he mentions?

@baldcyclist - is a myth according to forces.net site too. A lot of close cooperation and warheads shared randomly between US & Royal Navy.
Quote here. If star constellations are so reliable then should be default for WMD!
The last area where people believe that the US could exert control over the UK nuclear deterrent is by the use of GPS for fixing positions on the targets. By turning GPS off in a crisis, they could apparently prevent the UK from firing. In reality, the Trident missile can use navigation techniques that rely on star sighting in the constellations, which is immune to any form of jamming. Such a move would, therefore, have absolutely no impact on the UK’s ability to launch a nuclear strike if it chose to do so.
@SRD - UK Gov in Scotland have big new HQ at New St.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Similar Centre in EK with 500 + 500 jobs(looks like Centre 1 to me) but not sure about the big UK.Gov sign there? Certainly see it on Calton Road / New St corner. Very visible. HMRC not devolved so this might be the rebranding linked to Tax Revenue. Not devolved yet we have the rig(t to adjust our rate which we don’t do.

@gembo - the UK Government retains the power to set income tax personal allowances, but since 2016 the Scottish Government has set income tax rates for workers resident in Scotland. Scottish income tax bands and rates are different from those paid in the rest of the UK.

Thanks Laidback. had to look up New St!
@gembo yes knew about the glasgow /EK shifts. and have been to the West end bldg but hadn't realised there was a big site near Holyrood.

“hadn't realised there was a big site near Holyrood“
Has secret bunker with tanks.
(Or maybe they are in CEC’s underground car park with the electric bikes?)

The new UK Gov HQ in Caltongate/Waverleygate development is effectively just a rationalisation of office space. Same civil servants were previously dotted around the city in separate multiple offices. Now under one roof. Do you really believe a Tory government will spend more in Scotland? Smoke and mirrors for propaganda effect mostly: they have put up big vinyl lettering proclaiming presence to all and sundry, unlike very discreet nameplates on old offices.

@srd yes, they have a big red armchair you can have a meeting in. You can see it from the piazza.

Do you think polling stations in Scotland will be modified in the same way to allow us to have "cycle through" polling stations?
Posted 4 years ago # -
No!
Next question...

So the London regime are once again planning to break international law by increasing their stockpile of nuclear weapons by 40%. Apparently this reckless and dangerous act is no problem, maybe because their Tory chums in the defence industry will benefit. Starmer's Blue Labour did not bother to question this decision, instead complaining that the armed forces have been starved of funding over the past decade. It was left to the smaller parties, including the SNP, to highlight the illegality and seriousness of the situation.
Scotland of course home to the UK's "independent" nukes. But not allowed to have a say whether we want to keep them here or not.

David Davis MP on his feet using Parliamentary privilege to divulge information about meetings and text messages which was withheld from the Salmond enquiry, which has been given to him by a 'whistle blower'.
Posted 4 years ago # -
This information unlikely to be published though, due to potential contempt of court?

The major revalation so far being that NS tried to intervene in the process in Feb 2018, much to the dismay of the civil service at the time, and shows she knew about the claims much earlier than she has admitted in Parliament.
Edit: it was NS's Chief of Staff who tried to intervene, not NS, bit the implication is that NS would have known.
Posted 4 years ago # -
The case that David Davis is making is that the Scottish Parliament doesn't have the power which it needs to hold the Government of the day to account, and he is arguing that the Scotland Act 1999 is ammended to give the Parliament more powers eg to allow separation of powers, and also that MSP's should also have Parliamentary Privilege to allow them to carry out Parliamentary business.
He states the Scottish Parliament's power is derived from WM, and that WM has failed by not giving it sufficient powers, which now needs to be corrected. The new revelations were given as examples of why the current system is failing, we can say and publish it here (WM), but they can't essentially.

That's actually a very reasonable point that he's making. MSPs ought to be able to require the government to be accountable.

The Opinium Survey for Sky News suggested the SNP would win 64 seats in May’s election, one more than in 2016, but still one short of a majority.

The poll also found a narrow majority of decided voters in favour of independence, with 51 per cent backing Yes and 49% for No.
Posted 4 years ago # -
UK (attempts at) Imperialism continue.
This probably won’t affect many people’s voting intentions (perhaps even less than the ‘promise’ of more warheads on the Clyde), but either inept timing or just ‘Scotland?, election?, so?)

The IoM government source said: “The Isle of Man is self-governing, the UK government would not be able to open any sort of processing centre on the island without consent. The UK government has not contacted the Isle of Man government about any such proposal.”
Other islands off the British coast, including Scottish isles, are reportedly under consideration, as are countries including Turkey.

“
Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon took the SNP from nowhere to government, and Scotland to the brink of independence. What could their split mean for the future of Scotland and the UK?

Committee finding seems significant given the committee is weighted to find on the side of the Govt.
