"His report said Ms Sturgeon had given an "incomplete narrative of events" to MSPs.

But he said this was a "genuine failure of recollection" and not deliberate."

What's not clear to me is presumably that means what she told him and what she told the enquiry were different. How does he *know* she just forgot, again?

On the wider point of whether she broke the ministerial code at the time of the meetings he finds she didn't.

Yes, more time needed to digest.

On the face of it there are a number of aspects of the report which will not be comfortable for the Government, not least that the report finds it credible that Mr Salmond was furnished with the name of one of the complainers...

"Mr Hamilton said that because four other witnesses corroborated Mr Aberdein's version of events: "I believe that Mr Aberdein's account of what was said by [the official about] the existence of the complaints and the identity of the complainers is credible"."

BBC's Glenn Campbell gave the FM an interview with a suitable amount of inference that the verdict is not quite right. Broadcast media won't be happy with Hamilton as he didn't leak in advance. MSM and political parties love leaks and then go all moral about how disgraceful they are.
Anas Sarwar thinks the committee report will be the one to watch.
Patrick Harvie rightly points out that the leaks from that report have been not helpful.

Will be interesting to see how UK Media handle it. Adam Tompkins was given time to lay into the 'corrupt and sleazy' SNP yesterday. He's not standing as an MSP again. When Giesler asked him about standards in HoC he more or less said that was in a different country and nothing to do with him. AT did say that he did support Holyrood and thought that it was generally a success for Scotland.

Lots of pictures of a smiling Nicola Sturgeon.

When the same independent QC ruled the first minister of wales did not break the ministerial code the first minister resigned 3 days later. Tragiv circumstances in wales.

think up here in chilly Jockland we will have Nicola for another five years. Frankly as John Curtice has said, who are the other leaders?

James Hamilton report - “It is for the Scottish Parliament to decide whether they were in fact misled”

Not really the right thread but suppose has some relevance.

    ---

Boris Johnson’s 'levelling up' plans unlikely to succeed, says watchdog

Pouring cold water on the prime minister’s election promise to rebalance Britain’s regionally lopsided economy, the Industrial Strategy Council (ISC) said the levelling-up agenda risked failure even though its ambitions were vague and would struggle to stand up to scrutiny.

The council – a group of influential business leaders led by the Bank of England’s chief economist, Andy Haldane – said a “comprehensive reorientation” was necessary for success and it should prioritise putting more spending decisions into the hands of local communities.

The warning, contained in the ISC’s final annual report, comes after ministers announced plans to scrap the council at the end of the month and replace it with its “build back better” plan for growth.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Institute for Government on Tuesday, Haldane said: “You don’t level up from the top down. Rather you level up from the bottom up.”

Poor old Andy, he is thoroughly excommunicated now.

Has he said if he will stand again?

But what knocks all that into a cocked hat is the help I’ve been able to offer literally thousands of people in West Edinburgh. Politics for me is about public service and there is no finer feeling than being able to bring satisfaction or redress to someone who is at their wits’ end.

Last time round Edinburgh Western saw a huge swing from Labour to Lib-Dem. Allowing ACH to gain around 15% on the SNP candidate. I assume this was due unionist voters doing their best to keep the SNP out.

If I understand the voting system correctly ACH would have been an MSP on the regional list had he not got the constituency assuming this meant SNP got the constituency then Andy Wightman would have been the looser. However that is a lot of ifs.

Lib-Dem got fewer than 2000 more votes in the whole of Lothian than ACH got in Ed western. If 1,000 of those voters had voted for green rather than Lib-Dem then Andy would have been in and Alex out.

One thing that seems likely is that many people who voted for ACH last time aren't actually Lib-Dem supporters. So there would be another big swing if anyone other than ACH does some campaigning.

@SRD - She's definitely standing again. In her constituency, which she's held since 1999, as well as being top of their regional list.

Among the recommendations made by the peer include introducing a new Great Office of State in the Cabinet, a new structure supporting the separate offices of the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland with a single Permanent Secretary and a new fund for UK-wide projects, including joint projects with devolved governments.

" The Dunlop review, which was completed in November 2019, was published this evening by the Cabinet Office. "

Why publish now, 16 months after completion? Election coming up possibly? Holyrood conveniently dissolved and purdah has presumably begun.

That would be nice, maybe voting Labour can make a differnce agin?...

    From the article:

"Survation’s survey found 51 per cent of voters would say No if asked “should Scotland be an independent country?”"

That's quite a change, and I think the 3rd poll now that has indy on even's, down from ~60% support at the high.
