Leafy Edinburgh Southern has changed hands more times than a rusty penny. Formerly Edinburgh South prior to the 2008 boundary review, the well-heeled suburban constituency is known for producing razor thin majorities.

I know what they are trying to say by that but it seems an odd turn of phrase. Passing a penny round keeps it from corroding. and copper doesn't rust.

So are they actually saying that voting there is counterfeit with people not voting for who they want and the result being stuck in the mud for years?

A rusty penny is one you strive to get rid of I presume. Bit like a round pound coin. A shiny penny you are happy to keep.

Can’t say I’m surprised, but it’s ‘early’ - most people won’t have been following too closely.

(I’m not anticipating a significant increase as the election process continues.)

Deleting articles people aren't meant to read is a guaranteed way of generating interest in a topic? From National.

A BLOG post from a UK Government adviser, arguing there are “no reasons” to believe an independent Scotland wouldn’t be economically successful, has been deleted after The National ran a story on it.

The post, published on the London School of Economics British Politics and Policy website, was co-authored by Geoffrey Chapman who advises the Department for International Trade on economics.

In the piece, he examined the financial viability of a Yes vote and the ways an independent Scotland could achieve international recognition even if Westminster rejects the results of a referendum.

Considering Scotland has all the necessary machinery in place to become an independent state, we see no obvious reasons why Scotland would not succeed economically if it were to do so, especially if achieved within the bounds of the law. Although our findings might be controversial to some, we hope to show that Scottish independence, while not inevitable, is far more nuanced a matter than many have claimed. There exist several options worth pursuing for the parties to this debate.

Mr Flynn said: “Little did I think when I founded the party the impact that it would have.

“After exactly one week since our public launch, our membership has surged past that of the Liberal Democrats, a party which has been in existence for 150 years.”

I predict tomorrow's poll in Sunday Times will show a rise in support for the new party. Tantalising close to winning a seat. Hours of speculative fun for pollsters!

Mr Cardownie started off as a Labour councillor, elected to Edinburgh City Council in 1988, before defecting to the SNP in 2005 and leading the party in two coalitions before standing down at the 2017 council elections.

    Not exactly.

    Candidates are, curiously, mostly female!

Cardownie not quite the endorsement I would wish for if I were the Alba organisers, but I can see the local angle for Havering Snooze.

Neale Hanvey MP is LGBT apparently. Quite a few switchers from SNP ranks are female feminists. Also the Common Weal crew jumped ship.

Make of this what you will.

Hanvey is one of 45 openly LGBT MPs.[35] He lives in Fife with his partner, Avelino del Carmen Prado Cortes, and two sons. The couple have been together since 1994, and entered into a civil partnership in 2011.

However, should the SNP need the votes of additional pro-independence MSPs to strengthen the case for another referendum, our poll suggests they may be able to look to the Greens, whose share of intended list votes has increased from 8% in our February poll to 12% now.

“We’ve got, without doubt, the most qualified and capable candidate list of any party to take the fight to the separatists in the next Scottish Parliament.

“All For Unity will open the books of the Scottish Parliament, tackle the scourge of separatism and #SaveOurScotland.

“I’m more Labour than Anas Sarwar, more pro-Union than Douglas Ross, I’m the one the separatists fear.

“On May 6, vote tactically, vote smart, vote A4U and get the SNP out.”
