So what is planned for when the Queen dies?

    Operation London Bridge

The Guardian did a long read on it back in 2017.

    Ta

    From link -

The media would be informed via an announcement to PA Media and the BBC through the Radio Alert Transmission System (RATS)

    !

and to commercial radio on the Independent Radio News through a network of blue "obit lights" which will alert presenters to play "inoffensive music" and prepare for a news flash, while BBC Two would suspend scheduled programming and switch to BBC One's broadcast of the announcement.

My italics - so a practice run then...

    Pistols are out then...

They canceled Saturdays "Stereo Underground" which really annoyed me its about the only scheduled radio programme I listen to, the DOE died a full 24hrs before that. Surely we only need to listen to the blooper reel once.

The £120 million scheme, which includes a flyover to ease congestion, was halted in February last year so a review could be carried out as part of the SNP's Holyrood budget agreement with the Greens.

But Mr Briggs said the rush-hour queues which have long plagued commuters are getting worse and demanded that the project – financed under the City Region Deal should resume.

“Many have spoken about Prince Philip’s environmentalism. Today’s environmental movement overwhelmingly places responsibility for the global crisis on the powerful, and would not seek to reconcile conservation with the bloodsport of the wealthy.

"Yet it is still the case that a debt is owed to those whose environmentalism did achieve global awareness, even if it was shaped by different values to today’s.

READ MORE: Westminster recalled early for MPs to give eight-hour tribute to Prince Philip

“It’s said that Prince Philip wished to modernise the monarchy, and no doubt in time it will again consider if it can do so.

“How a royal family can keep pace with the modern, democratic society it is supposed to serve, and how it must show respect for the diversity of that society in its words and its deeds.

“Others will question whether it can, whether it should retain its place or not. That debate is not for today.

"Today is a moment to extend our thoughts to Prince Philip’s family, and to all those who are grieving for their loves ones in a spirit for the equal value of every human life."

Mike Elrick, a former adviser to the late Labour leader John Smith, branded Harvie's statement “utterly pathetic”.

Full speeches are here. Not sure what the Greens were trying to achieve there - focusing a eulogy on your finer points rather than those of the departed seems pretty bad form.

Some will argue that Holyrood was disrespectful for not giving more time to this.
    Commons gave eight hours.
    Lords will give ten hours.

Politicians telling teachers how to run their classes - well, that's an approach with a long history of success...

The effect size of homework is slender at primary age.

However, I vote homework to instil the idea in young minds they might have to do a bit of work when not in school.

The effect size of Class Size is also slender. But this is definitely an artifact of Morningside having huge classes and Muirhouse having tiny classes.

There have, of course, been lots of positive as well as negative outcomes from politicians telling teachers how to run their classes.

It's not that long ago that teachers were allowed, even encouraged, to physically assault pupils. There are still a frankly terrifying number of teachers who would still like to be allowed to do so (over 20% in 2008). Thankfully, politicians (and other teachers) tell them where to go.

i am in favour of homework that revises stuff that has been taught at school. sending the kids home to do stuff that either hasn't been taught or hasn't been comprehended is pointless.

But omg the debates within a class, much less a school/parent council are insane, and unresolvable.

What does homework have to do with green issues? What does any recent announcement from the green party have to do with the environment?

What does homework have to do with green issues?

Social justice is a huge part of green politics, and education is a very important aspect of social justice.

What does any recent announcement from the green party have to do with the environment?

In the last week, SGP announcements have included items on a just transition away from fossil fuels. and a pledge to close foxhunting loopholes. But "Green Party announces environmental policy" often doesn't get traction, for some reason.

I don't remember doing any homework at primary school. Don't think there was any until high school. I do remember being smacked by primary school teachers though, often in front of the whole class. Woe betide if you got sent to the head teacher.

I also recall being surprised by the sheer amount of homework my eldest was expected to complete at primary school. Things have relaxed a bit now for the youngest, but that may be largely down to the pandemic and home learning fatigue...

    from Sport Scotland

"Following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, the national mourning guidance sets out that it is for individual organisations to decide on the most appropriate response. The guidance from Scottish Government can be found here https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-duke-of-edinburgh-mourning-guidance/
In line with the UK Government, Scottish Government ask that sports avoid activity between 2 and 5pm on Sat April 17, when the funeral is scheduled to take place, however there is some uncertainty about how long the funeral will last"

@Simpson - Willie is a great storyteller! Said their local politicians take account of local residents views.

The Greens look set to see more MSPs than ever elected to Holyrood, with recent polling suggesting they could win ten seats. They currently have six MSPs at Holyrood.

•Digital opinion site UNherd put its foot in it on Wednesday, after publishing an op-ed penned by Ruth Davidson that described her as “Leader of the Scottish Conservatives”. The gaffe comes after the party’s actual leader, Douglas Ross, was forced to fight off claims he had been sidelined by strategists at Westminster when Ms Davidson was chosen to front a prominent Conservative party political broadcast last week.

•In her piece for the site, Ms Davidson took a less-than-veiled swipe at Alex Salmond, George Galloway and Laurence Fox when she wrote: “Voters would be forgiven for wanting men of a certain age to deal with their mid-life crises by buying a sports car, rather than launching a new political party."

Not sure when "mid-life" occurs these days, what with average life expectancy rising, but Eck and Jorge are both eligible for the state pension this year.

I know what Ruth Davidson means, but clearly arithmetic not her strong point (Does she have any? - Ed).
