This would cover the costs of grants for people who can’t work from home and are on lower incomes.

    Grants?

For the first time in their history, the Greens have a realistic chance of becoming the main political power in Germany's federal government.

I am very much a supporter of UBI but I don't see why an automated supermarket should be contributing any more to it than a traditional supermarket. Although I do think we need to retain some choice in the market for those who don't want to use an automated solution we are a long way from having to subsidise regular supermarkets to achieve this choice.

I don't really see any difference between an automated supermarket and a grocery home delivery service. Some home delivery services are moving out of supermarkets to direct from warehouse delivery anyway.

THE Scottish Greens have been accused of “actively working against” the independence cause by fighting the SNP in a dozen constituencies at the Holyrood election and potentially helping Unionist candidates win.

The claim came from Alex Salmond's pro-independence Alba Party, which has urged its supporters to vote SNP in constituencies and Alba on the regional list in order to maximise the number of pro-independence MSPs.

Mr Salmond’s party is receiving a similar level of support to the Abolish the Scottish Parliament party, George Galloway’s All for Unity party, the Scottish Libertarians and UKIP.

'Save our Scotland'. No mention of cycling policy from GG.
Harry Potter train appears though. Comedy gold.

I would be pleased if Andy Wightman gains a seat in H&I but this image is a little over the top.

Spokes has analysed the parties' manifestos vis-a-vis active travel.

Overall, it is truly remarkable that the Greens, Labour and Conservative parties at Holyrood all now promise 10% or more of the total transport budget for active travel, whilst SNP and Lib Dem promises equate to some 5%-7%, roughly double the current 3.5%. This is a huge credit to all who have campaigned for substantial investment. At the previous election in 2016 only the Greens called for 10%, with other parties promising relatively small or unspecified increases.

    INVESTMENT
% of transport budget to be allocated to AT
    (3.5% now)

    Conservative
    10% by 2026

    Green
    £320m immediately
    [approx 10%] rising further

    Labour
10% [unclear if soon or by 2026]

    LibDem
    aim” to double existing
    [this would be approx 7%]

    SNP
10% of “capital” budget by 2026 [BUT this is less of the total transport budget.]

The overall transport budget comprises capital + revenue. The SNP only promises 10% of the capital element of the transport budget whereas other parties promise a % of the entire transport budget. It is impossible from the budget document or the SNP manifesto to work out the exact split between capital and revenue, but the SNP commitment of 10% of capital probably equates only to between 5% and 7% of the entire transport budget, i.e. similar to the Lib Dems.

As most Conservatives sought to move on from the row, the leader of the Scottish Tories, Douglas Ross, said Johnson should resign if he is found to have broken the ministerial code of conduct.

BORIS Johnson is planning to spend billions on Scotland's rail and road network in an attempt to save the Union, but will unveil his 'blueprint' after the Holyrood poll.

Mr Johnson announced in Febuary that cash for levelling up parts of the England would be increased, to enable the funding to be spread out across all four nations of the UK, as part of the Bill.

Now if I was living in England I would already believe that far too much money had been spent in Scotland. I would be asking why the UK/English Government wasn't matching the alleged spend per head that is lavished on all of us (some?) in Scotland.
These plans will surely provoke a backlash and demand for true English self governance?
Those arguing no to IndyRef seem to think a status quo exists. One Holyrood abolitionist given time on BBC this morning argued devolution was a mistake.
He claimed Aberdeen had been starved of investment and would now benefit from direct UK funding. Shame the 30 mile bypass has already been built as that would have been nice one for direct Union Funding.

“He claimed Aberdeen had been starved of investment and would now benefit from direct UK funding.”

We are well past the “fake news” ‘reality’.

Now it’s full on ‘believe what you want’ - doesn’t matter if it’s ‘reliable sources’, unreliable sources or merely your own head.

Brexit and Boris lies make no difference, many people are now sure no one else has a better plan. This - ironically - probably helps the SNP. Whatever its failings, there’s not much confidence in alternatives on offer.

May be that turnout (or lack of) will make more difference than the polls can identify.

    Yes, voting Thursday. Results Saturday(?)

Yes. Some results on Friday but all in on Saturday T time.

My prediction is that Bonnie Prince Bob will do better than expected followed by the Family Party which is working for youth vote on social media I hear.

I also predict that 'some doubt' will be cast on the accuracy of the vote due to the long period of the count.

I further predict that the Scottish Greens will take a massive vote in the Easter Road and Leith area and less in Gorgie / Dalry (judging by number of posters in vicinity of Hibs stadium)

We (some of us) will all miss the drama of the live reaction of candidates as early hours results come in.

Willie Rennie has moved to go harder on 'the nats' than Douglas Ross. From Sky News feed.

"We need to focus on these challenges, to try and get recovery, to try and improve ordinary people’s lives. They won’t get that with another independence referendum and that’s why I will not support it under any circumstances at any time."

So, no "Election Night Specials" this year because no overnight count. Fine. Maybe we can ditch that stupid tradition. Counting votes over a couple of days during normal working hours is much more civilised, and better for the workers doing the counting.

The Holyrood Abolitionist cranks are probably the same kind of folk who use the term "Clowncil" when they're unhappy about roadworks, trams or SfP schemes.

Spending by other groups includes £2,000 on an Edinburgh-focused Facebook ad promoting the VoteUnion tactical voting tool, which has been seen at least 125,000 times; at least £1,500 spent on Facebook by ThinkScotland, a blog edited by the former Conservative MSP Brian Monteith, to promote VoteUnion’s guide ; and Young Unionists, a new group with no clear indication of who is behind it, placed a similar ad on Tuesday.

Passionate supporter of active travel Alex Cole-Hamilton has been re-elected with an increased majority.

Anti-cycling motorhead Susan Webber* got less than 6% of the vote.

A ringing endorsement for active travel here in Edinburgh West -right?

*still very likely to get in on the list

First woman of colour elected to Holyrood.
Kaukab Stewart for SNP in Kelvin.

Tom Bradby, presenter of ITV News at Ten, said on Twitter: “If the SNP can assemble a pro-independence majority here tonight or tomorrow, I just can't see how it would be credible to deny them another referendum. It would make an absolute mockery of the principle of democratic devolution.”

    Kaukab Stewart

I remember when she was a Craigmillar Primary teacher MANY years ago.

Can’t remember if she ever rode a bike, but she certainly observed the benefits of cycling to pupils there.

    Pronounced Co-cab
