Watch out tomorrow for a piece in the Guardian that’ll knock your active-travel socks off. It’s an incredibly positive development and one that could truly transform many British cities.

Intriguing - I hope "British cities" doesn't just mean "English cities".

    Well.

Assuming it’s Tory conference related, if it involves money, it could be a ‘direct fund’ - for LAs to bid for (throughout the UK).

Whatever it is, Tory/Gov related or not, hardly likely to be seriously gamechanging.

Unless of course there’s a plan to make it legal to block motorways…

Didn't they say all that about the Segway when it was still called 'project Ginger' at Harvard?

Segway is just a rethinking of the Sinclair C5 for USAnian tech bros.

Not sure it lives up to Carlton’s hype.

Zaffar expects that when building work starts on creating the zones, there will be stiff opposition from some motorists, and he is steeling himself for abuse and threats.

But, he said: “I didn’t come into politics to win popularity contests; I came into politics to change lives for the better.

    Well, that was disappointing.

Ha. I just knew it was going to be disappointing as soon as I saw Carlton's teaser tweet. He's such a clickbaiter just like the rest of them.

Didn't this already get announced? I'm pretty sure Urban Cycling Activist Twitter had quite a few "Brum doing Ghent-style circulation plan" posts not long ago.

It's good news right enough, but the idea it's going to lead to a wave of similar measures across the UK seems...optimistic.

Council plans to divert car traffic from city via a ring road while providing more buses and cycle lines.

    Cycle lines? Sounds about right.
