    Just what we need, especially as it will be "creating up to 400 full and part-time jobs"

    Interesting that The Scotsman use the work "IKEA" rather than "Straiton" to locate this for their readers.

    Apparently it might open up vacancies in other Asdae as staff already commuting from distant lands might prefer the bypass-proximity of Costkea Way...

    I am amused by the assumption that opening new supermarkets or retail parks "creates" jobs. The equally simplistic way that I see it is that there is a certain limit (financial or physical) to the ammount of "stuff" I can buy. By opening new places to buy it I don't actually buy more "stuff", I just buy it elsewhere. So unless these new places can either somehow make me spend more money on buying food I don't need or unless they are inherintly inneficient and need more staff than the alternative locations, then all they are doing is displacing where I buy my "stuff" - from shop A to supermarket B. Otherwise we could just build supermarkets to get ourselves out of the financial doldrums*.

    The current administration in Edinburgh want to increase tax on big supermarket chains where they have premises with a rateable value of more than £35,000.

    For more info you can Google: Scotland Tesco Tax.

    I suspect it's a bit late to reverse the damage done to city centres but... "Every little bit helps".

    So what you're saying is that there's going to be a financial incentive for the cooncil to allow more out of town developments, so they can tax them more?

    I suppose it's more above board than the *traditional reasons for councils to allow large out of town developments.

    * Allegedly

    I think that's great news! It will be very close to my place of work! I <3 ASDA. I think Sainsbury's is a rip-off.

    I hope this isn't part of the ridiculous proposal to re-route/duplicate the A701 through fields, Bilston Woods etc. Otherwise there's nowhere available at Straiton to actually build an Asda let alone the carpark space needed to go with it
