Trams - Council Insurance Database

After an earlier FOI request turned up some very interesting information held on a particular bit of road, the existence of a database of all the tram injuries reported to the council and the value of claims became apparent. A quick follow-up and we now have it.

The total value paid out including solicitors costs etc so far is in the order of £1.25M with some very large claims in there too.

Interestingly, the earlier spreadsheet I was given for one junction did have the estimated claim values which they say they don't hold (i.e. what a solicitor has initially intimated and is ongoing). That was around £0.25M for one junction so I'd expect the level of claims to continue to increase.

It would be good to get this into the local (or even national) press. Perhaps one for Spokes or other organisations to take forward with an appropriate release

It is interesting, but to my eye at least, it looks like a much higher proportion of the earlier claims paid out. The more recent ones seem to feature a lot of £0.00

I think that’s because in this request they’ve not included estimated claims and it’s taking a few years to pay out. My earlier FOI for one junction also had estimates and the newer ones had amounts against them. They’ve claimed in this request they don’t have that data…

In fact both are by the same journalist! Possibly STV news tonight too I’m told.

    Yeah but what’s the story?

‘Bad infrastructure costs CEC money (forget about the pain damage and worse) but no rush to reduce/remove problem’.
