Twice recently I've flagged down a taxi with its yellow light on, only to be told "sorry mate, I've just been given a job". I'd have thought that the first thing the driver should do if they've taken a booked job is turn their light off - or are the booked jobs allocated automatically these days and they don't have any choice in the matter? Even if that is the case it stilll seems pretty poor, especially if - as happened to us on one recent occasion - it's the last cab turning up at Waverley's so-called "taxi rank" to pick up the last passenger waiting (or don't they tell each other how many cabs are needed at the ranks these days, either?)

Taxis: are they obliged to take a fare if they have their light on?

I suspect the "jobs" are coming from apps like Gett and they know, or think they know, that they will get some sort of penalty for refusing/cancelling.
Curious if you said where you were going before they told you they were busy..?
